Due to the limitations posed by my recorder, this case will be split into two parts.

Cole and Roy are given a new assignment; A young model named Julia Randall who was found dead in her own bathtub, having apparently drowned after overdosing on the military-issue morphine. However, the coroner quickly notices that while an attempt was made to make the death look like drowning, Julia was actually murdered and then placed into a bathtub, noting that two people were most likely involved; One who held her down and one who overdosed her with morphine. Upon investigating Julia's apartment, Cole finds a photo revealing that Julia recently had a modeling assignment in D'Assine dress store nearby and that she had been using multiple drugs, including barbituates and benzedrine, the latter having been legally prescribed by Dr. Stoneman. With these leads, Cole and Roy first head to D'Assine dress store where they learn that Julia was fired due to her appearance distracting husbands of the shop's clientele and that Julia had one friend on work, a young woman named Heather Swanson. Upon questioning her, two detectives learn that Heather is engaged to Henry Arnette, owner of a fashion business and Julia's old acquintance with Henry having given her an expensive pearl ring for the engagement. Afterwards, two detectives head to Dr. Stoneman's office and interrogate him with Cole catching him in the lie when he tries to claim that Julia had been his patient for only six months despite benzedrine prescription found in her apartment dating from July 1946, over a year before her death. Cornered, doctor admits that he prescribed her the drug as she used it for the weight loss and that Julia had significant drug problem. As they finish questioning him, Cole is contacted by the coroner who urges the detectives to come and see him as he has finished the autopsy on Julia's corpse. As they get there, coroner officially confirms that Julia was murdered and that two people were involved in the murder. He also shows them another corpse, a burglar named Jimmy LeBlanc whose head was split open with a piece of lumber for whom he theorizes to have been one of two people involved in Julia's murder. As they continue to talk, Cole and Roy are called to the station in order to interrogate Henry Arnette who had come to the station. During interrogation, Henry denies any knowledge about Julia's death or acquintance with Jimmy LeBlanc, ultimately claiming to be a war veteran who fought during Okinawa Campaign, much to Cole's suspicion as he decides to track him with Cole and Roy shadowing him as he leaves the station and heads to a pawn shop to pawn something. As he leaves, Roy heads in to check what he pawned while Cole continues to track Henry himself, eventually tracking him down to a travel agency where he learns that Henry just bought a one-way train ticket to Mexico City, Mexico. Upon meeting up with Roy, Cole learns that Henry pawned a fabrege-patterned cigarette case for 600 dollars. As they return to their car, two detectives are contacted by KGPL who say that detectives in Hollywood station have more information regarding the case and that the last arresting officer of Jimmy LeBlanc named Fred Wallis is working on a beat patrol near Sunset Boulevard...
