Let's Play Donkey Kong Country - Part 4: Adding Nuts to a Statue
Entering the second half of the second world, we come across perhaps one of the game's more infamous levels: Stop & Go Station, or 2-4. It takes place in a mine, though with different scenery and music from Winky's Walkway. The gimmick of the level is Rockkroc, an invincible Kremling made of stone who will run back and forth endlessly when the lights are green but freeze and curl up into a rock when the lights are red. To get through the level, naturally, you must hit the stoplight barrels whenever possible to keep the Rockkrocs in their stationary, harmless state. The next level, 2-5, Millstone Mayhem, introduces another new theme and uses Winky yet again. Millstone Mayhem takes place in a temple, where the main threat is a kind of Gnawty that runs in the middle of a large millstone, causing the millstone to move back and forth. Nothing we can't deal with, though. The same goes for the second boss stage, Necky's Nuts, where Master Necky Jr. is waiting for a fight. He's a gigantic vulture (or Necky, as the case may be), so big that only his head fits into the boss room, and he attacks by sticking his head out at one of four locations and spitting a nut at you. Jump on his head and avoid the nuts 5 times. He doesn't even seem to change his pattern, unlike Very Gnawty. Have I mentioned that the bosses in this game are easy? Yeah, they're definitely a lot easier than the ones in either of the sequels. In any case, that's two worlds down and four to go.
