Let's Play Donkey Kong Country - Part 7: I Come From the Land of the Ice and Snow
We're up to the second half of the game now, and things aren't getting any easier. Next up is Gorilla Glacier, the ice world. The first level of this one is actually pretty tough if you're not very good at barrel-shooting sequences. 4-1 is Snow Barrel Blast, and it lives up to its name. It starts out easy enough, introducing you to snow levels and whatnot (and I might addd that in this game, the snow levels have a pretty nice effect with the snow covering up the mountains in the background), with some basic enemies and simple barrel-shooting sequences. About two-thirds of the way through, however, you're faced with lots of rotating barrels and *moving* rotating barrels, often with Zingers around them and some of them rotating very fast. This is possibly the most infamous level segment in the game, though it's not too bad once you learn how to time the barrels properly. The next one, 4-2, is called Slipslide Ride, and its gimmick is found in no other level, but it also has completely unique graphics and music. It's a sort of ice cave, though I've always thought it looked more like a crystal cave. There are blue and purple ropes in this one that will make you automatically slide up or down depending on the color. 4-3, Ice Age Alley, returns to the outdoor snowy theme (the second and last level to have such a theme), and it is mainly centered around swinging on ropes, with some tires and standard platforming to keep you busy. Or you could just fly over most of it, since you can find Expresso at the beginning if you walk back to the left a bit.
