Let's Play Mega Man X4 - Part 7: Lava and Let Die
Our sixth Maverick stage is a challenging one. Magma Dragoon resides in a volcano full to the brim with fiery traps. It has large fireballs that go up and down or along the ground, arcing spurts of fire, lava pits...though we can pick up the last armor part here, the body part, which enables X to perform the Nova Strike and presumably reduces damage by half as well. It too has a Ride Armor, the third instance of such in this game. Mega Man X4 has three stages total with Ride Armors, more than any other MMX game except X3. (By my count, X1 and 2 each have 2; 5, 6, 7, and 8 each have 1; and 3 has...I don't even know.) You can even take the Ride Armor into the boss room, which I'll have to show off sometime later. Magma Dragoon is one of the hardest bosses to fight without his weakness; he's fast, powerful, and gives little warning to his attacks. He can do a flaming uppercut, throw bursts of fire, breathe a large stream of fire, and, later in the boss battle, even make fiery rocks rain down from the sky. (Though still none of this guy's moveset actually seems to include magma, except *maybe* the falling fireball thing...) He's also a rather unique boss in that you actually get a dialogue *after* defeating him, because he knew X before and apparently wanted to fight him just for the heck of it. I don't know. Characters in these games are idiots. His special weapon is the Rising Fire, which shoots a fireball upward. It can be used to take out enemies above you and to burn or melt certain stage elements.
