Saturos and Menardi may be defeated, but Isaac and his friends have not completed their quest. Far from it in fact, things have only gotten worse for them; Sheba and Felix fell into the sea and are missing, a whole chunk of Gondowan has broken off from the continent and has floated away along with Kraden and Jenna, Venus Lighthouse was lit and they lost the Shaman's Rod which they apparently needed to get to the Jupiter Lighthouse.

All in all, it's safe to say that things could've gone better but at least they didn't die.

There's no time for them to hang around in Gondowan and Angara. They need to stop Felix from lighting the remaining two lighthouses, seek out Jenna and Kraden as well as fulfill their promise to Babi by searching for Lemuria and bringing back some draught to save his life. While the game may be over, their quest has only just begun and unfortunately, the characters won't stop telling you this repeatedly just in case you didn't figure it out.

Golden Sun is an exceptionally enjoyable roleplaying game and a technical marvel on the Game Boy Advance but I can see beyond my rose tinted vision to spot all the flaws that the game has. The complexities of the combat are all but moot when you can get through most of the game just auto-attacking. The plot has its silly moments and its exceptionally dumb moments and the dialogue is plagued with needless repetition. The plot rarely throws anything that can't be seen coming a mile away and if you skip talking to all the NPCs and mind reading them, you can get through the game far faster then I have. This may sound like I don't like the game but that's not true, I love it. The music by Motoi Sakuraba is wonderful and the graphics are fantastic but more importantly, Golden Sun for me was a top notch portable RPG at a time when I only had Mystic Quest and Link's Awakening on the go. Both of them are great games but Golden Sun is a true RPG, with turn based battles and everything else I'd grown to love in the RPGs I played on the PC.

For all its flaws, Golden Sun will always hold a special place in my heart as a game that I happened upon only by chance that left a lasting impression on me. My mind did a wonderful job of scrubbing out the lackluster parts of the game but now that I've done this let's play I'll remember them for many more years to come! This may not be a good thing.

Golden Sun did have a sequel, The Lost Age. It carries on the story this game leaves on a cliffhanger but not in the way you might expect. We may take a look at that sometime in the future but we're not quite done with this game just yet. There's one more thing to show off in this game and while it's not got any plot to it, it's still a part of the game I sunk many hours into after I completed the main story.

Next time, the battle mode.
