Let's Play Mega Man X3 - Part 10: Secret Seconds
We have defeated all of the Mavericks, but we are not ready to move on to the fortress just yet...we have some unfinished business to take care of. See, Mega Man X3 actually has a second set of Dr. Light capsules to collect. They are pink and found in the stages that do not have a regular capsule (each stage has 3 items: a heart tank, then either a Sub-Tank and a blue capsule or a Ride Armor and a pink capsule), and they are essentially upgrades to the existing parts. The trouble is that once you activate one of them, you cannot use the other three...except for a special prize that I will get in a few episodes. The secondary head part is found in Blast Hornet's stage, and it slowly recovers your health (and Sub-Tanks!) when you are standing still. The arm part is in Gravity Beetle's stage, and it more or less gives you fully-charged shots as a special weapon that is refilled by taking damage. The leg part is in Toxic Seahorse's stage, and it allows you to air-dash twice (2 horizontal, 2 vertical, or 1 of each; I think you can also dash-jump and then air-dash). Finally, the body part is in Crush Crawfish's, and it gives you an even longer invincibility period and even more damage reduction.
I also decided to show off an optional boss battle that you can do. There are teleporters in the stages of Volt Catfish, Blizzard Buffalo, and Crush Crawfish that teleport you to what seems to be an abandoned factory, and who waits there but Vile, our nemesis from the first Mega Man X game. He has two forms, one inside his Ride Armor and one outside of it, but neither are all that difficult once you know how his attacks work. After defeating him, you have to escape the factory before it explodes. You don't get anything for beating him, though if you do so with his weakness weapon, certain things later in the game will change. Mind you, none of the things I did in this episode will be reflected later on in the game because I did them on a different save file (sort of...I realize that MMX3 does not have save files).
