For our second boss, I take on Jet Stingray. His stage takes place pretty much entirely on jet bikes...make of that what you will. At the least, it goes by pretty quickly. The MMX4 incarnation of the Land Chaser or whatever the heck it's called is fairly powerful, with the ability to jump, shoot, dash, and even sort of air-dash. Strategy for this stage: mash the Square button, jump over pits, mash the Square button, jump over bombs and mines, mash the Square button, memorize the level layout, mash the Square button, dash into Jet Stingray when he shows up, mash the Square button, keep in mind where the items are, and did I mention mash the Square button? It's a pity that thing can't rapid-fire... The first area seems to be inside the marine base itself, while the second is out on the open ocean. Jet Stingray actually appears in the second part of the stage, and if you leave him there long enough, he starts dropping mini stingrays. The best way to deal with that is simply not to let it happen; dashing into Jet Stingray will damage him enough to get him to go away, though he will reappear later (just dash into him again). This stage has a heart tank and Sub-Tank that can both be obtained without any special weapons, the heart tank in the first section and the Sub-Tank in the second. The latter can actually be mildly tricky to get; the first time through, you're almost guaranteed to miss it. It's all about knowing when to jump and/or dash off the platform just before the one the Sub-Tank is on.

Jet Stingray himself isn't too hard a fight, as long as you're fighting him with X and using charged shots. At the start of the fight, he will do one of two things: dive-bomb you, or shoot four small blue stingrays that drop straight down when they hit the wall...and *then* dive-bomb you. He always hovers at the same vertical position and always alternates sides (as far as I know), so it's a simple enough pattern. I prefer to stay on the wall and use charged shots to take out all of his mini stingrays. At about 1/3 health, he goes all the way down to the ground, tries to suck you in, and then dashes at you. He can also dash straight up and down, making his way from one side of the screen to the other, though he rarely gets a chance to do that attack more than once. He still shoots his stingrays, but now they're pink, start heading downward as soon as they're directly above you, and come eight at a time. The weapon received upon defeat is essentially the same attack: the Ground Hunter, which shoots small stingray drones that go on a shallow downward diagonal line and drop if you press the Down button. The charged version shoots a larger version of the same thing.
