[Mage] Daggerfall Unity [12] | Advancing to Acolyte | The Heretic | The Relic | The Order of Arkay
Welcome back to The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, a role-playing game originally made by Bethesda for the MS Dos. For this playthrough, we are using the Unity remake of the game and a lot of mods to enhance the experience. The game involves navigating the sensitive political landscape of the Illiac Bay, a region of Tamriel on the fictional planet of Nirn comprising of the countries within the bay as well as the various fragmented powers surrounding it on both High Rock and Hammerfell. We have been sent to the place on a mission by our Emperor Uriel Septim VII to investigate two curious instances, the shade of King Lysandus that roams the streets of Daggerfall at night and a letter that he sent to the Queen of Daggerfall a few years ago that never reached her. Despite being a dungeon crawler at heart, Daggerfall places a lot of emphasis upon the player's individual exploration as choosing one among the various political factions in the region as they navigate the complex mess that is the Illiac Bay. In this playthrough, we will be playing as a Spellcaster and will shift our focus towards the Mages' Guild and the Order of Arkay.
Having achieved the rank of Evoker in the Mages' Guild, Strangeblood turns his attention towards the Order of Arkary so that he may obtain a greater variety of Arcane knowledge. The temple, on the other hand, was in dire need of his services and in the middle of a crisis.
The Quester asked him for help regarding a recent matter of a heretic that has been besmirching the name of the Order of Arkay by claiming that he has seen the face and heard the voice of this Aedroth. A priestess has already been sent to a local dungeon where the heretic first claims that he saw the Divine. Strangeblood's job is to travel to his hometown of Crosswick and investigate the findings there. He is to meet a contact of the temple that shall fill him in on further details.
Upon meeting the contact, he learns that the heretic is holed up in a place called The Toad and Dungeon. He also learns that the contact is communicating with his lover who resides in Greenham Manor. With our objectives clear to us, we proceed straight towards Greenham Manor to hopefully solve this case with a touch of subtlty. But when Strangeblood talks to the heretic's lover, she tells him that she knows nothing of the sort and that he has the wrong person.
Disappointed, but unwilling to admit defeat, he moves away for a while, following clues and conducting his investigation into the matter. That is when he finds a letter addressed to him, summoning him back to Crosswick, stating that his contact has suffered a fate gravely ill. He finds yet another contact of the Temple in her place who informs him how she had been ripped limb from limb in a bloody ritual with a bunch of Holy Tomes stuffed into her chest.
Thinking that this might pressurise the lover into revealing infromation about this clearly deranged man, he travels to Greenham Manor forthwith and brings the tome along with him. That is when he recieves the most disheartening letter about the Order having lost contact with the Priestess and the Order telling him to abandon his investigation and find the missing Priestess instead.
Strangeblood realises that the truth about Arkay is more important the life of one in his service and proceeds to confront the lover with evidence. The lover recognises the Holy Tomes as the heretic's belongings and hands over a threatening letter sent to her by none other than her apparently former lover.
Having recovered the evidence, Strangeblood makes a beeline for The Order of Arkay in The Ilessan Hills and hands over the letter. Convinced by the truth of the matter, the Quester forgets all about the missing priestess and provides Strangeblood with a Sapphire.
But that isn't when the troubles end for the Order. Apparently, a former priest of Arkay, Juboder, has stolen an ancient Relic of the temple and turned to darkness, making a Lich out of himself. Strangeblood is to travel to the Ruins of Masterhart Manor and steal this Relic back again. Defeating the Lich is not a necessity.
By sheer luck and his growing clairvoyance, Strangeblood managed to find the Relic very quickly, as if his steps were being guided by Arkay herself and not only that, he also manages to destroy Juboder for good. With everything having been done in excellent fashion, Strangeblood is promoted to the rank of Acolyte.
