[Mage] Daggerfall Unity [13] | Blackmail | Prince Helseth | Lord Castellian | Wayrest
Welcome back to The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, a role-playing game originally made by Bethesda for the MS Dos. For this playthrough, we are using the Unity remake of the game and a lot of mods to enhance the experience. The game involves navigating the sensitive political landscape of the Illiac Bay, a region of Tamriel on the fictional planet of Nirn comprising of the countries within the bay as well as the various fragmented powers surrounding it on both High Rock and Hammerfell. We have been sent to the place on a mission by our Emperor Uriel Septim VII to investigate two curious instances, the shade of King Lysandus that roams the streets of Daggerfall at night and a letter that he sent to the Queen of Daggerfall a few years ago that never reached her. Despite being a dungeon crawler at heart, Daggerfall places a lot of emphasis upon the player's individual exploration as choosing one among the various political factions in the region as they navigate the complex mess that is the Illiac Bay. In this playthrough, we will be playing as a Spellcaster and will shift our focus towards the Mages' Guild and the Order of Arkay.
Having just reached level 5 and advanced further in life, Strangeblood finds himself ready to tackle the primary reason that he was sent to the Illiac Bay as an errand by Emperor Uriel Septim himself. In that regard, he lets his Clairvoyance guide him and it takes him to Castle Wayrest. Upon reaching the castle, he finds that the one person who could tell him more about the quest at hand is Prince Helseth, King Eadwyre and Queen Barenziah's half dark-elf son.
Upon talking to him, it turns out that he has a vital piece of information for Strangeblood concerning the fate of King Lysandus that no one else can tell him. But first, Strangeblood must discretely deliver a letter on his behest. He tells the mage to meet him here tomorrow at the same time.
Strangeblood rests at a tavern overnight and comes back the next day and sleeps for an hour inside the court of Wayrest in front of Prince Helseth. He then asks the Prince what services he would require and the Prince only wants him to deliver a letter. The issue is that the recipient is cautious by nature and might have his guard up against any unannounced visitors such as Strangeblood himself. He also asked Strangeblood to not read the letter due to its sensitive nature.
Finding something odd about it, he decided to read the letter anyway and realised that Prince Helseth was blackmailing Lord Castellian, the recipient, and threatening to expose his affair with another lady lest he come to meet Helseth in Castle Wayrest. Against his every instinct to do the right thing, Strangeblood decides against informing Helseth's father of his activities in order to find whatever information he can about the Emperor and his last few days on Nirn.
With that being done, Strangeblood uses his magic to restore the seal on the letter and heads straight for The Ashford Residence in Wilderidge. He finds no guards whatsoever, but he does find Lord Castellian there whose face turns pale upon reading its contents.
He quickly pens a response and hands it to Strangeblood to be delivered back to Prince Helseth, proclaiming his desire to subjugate himself to the blackmailer's demands.
Strangeblood teleports back to Prince Helseth to learn that King Lysandus had actually been waylaid by Gortwog's Orcs right before the battle of Cryngaine Field while he was headed on his way for peace talks with King Camaron. The reason that this is extra important is because the Battle of Cryngaine Field is assumed to be where King Lysandus was wounded in battle before he succumbed to them and slipped into an eternal rest. However, if he was killed in an ambush by Gortwog's forces, it might mean that his tomb is somewhere completely else altogether and that the tomb in the Isle of Betony is neither his real tomb, nor the actual body of the King. This matter must be investigated more thoroughly.
Here is how Strangeblood aided in Blackmail:
