Let's Play Mirror's Edge: Catalyst | Episode 6: The MetaGrid | Lore | Memento | Downtown Gridnode
Welcome back to Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, a reboot of 2008's Mirror's Edge with improved graphics, refined gameplay, and a completely original story. The tale follows Faith, a Runner in Glass, Cascadia, a fictional country in a fantasy world where a comunist government got overtaken by private corporations. After a stint in Kreuger's Juvenile home for a period of three months and finding herself in debt to Dogen, a local crime boss, Faith is finally released and must work off her debt as soon as possible. On a high-paying job, she finds herself tailing an OMNISTAT spy and steals something valuable from him. This device could be her salvation or her unmaking. The game primarily focuses on Parkour even though it has fighting and combat ever now and then. It is a first person 3D platformer.
Having narrowly escaped capture by Kreuger Security after the explosion just feet from her, Faith found a safe haven in Plastic's lair and caught Gabriel Kreuger's speech on the recent explosion where he promised to find the perpetrators.
Shortly afterwards, Plastic asked Faith for a favour. She asked her if she could gather some Encrypted MetaGrid leaks. Apparently, that should give Plastic access to the MetaGrid and let her keep surveillance on the conversations between the elite echelon of Glass City.
Faith agrees and it turns out to only be a matter of sniffing encrypted packets out of the air. Once done with that, she decides to help a fellow runner by doing something she used to do all the time back in the day: a distraction run. Faith would run about and get all the KSEC guards chasing after her while the other run goes into the offices of WYFO and bugs them. However, Faith has grown rusty and can no longer run effectively, making it particularly difficult for her keep up the chase. Ultimately, the other runner gets spotted and she has to bail out immediately resulting in a failed diversion.
Following that, Faith takes out another comms antenna on her way to the Downtown GridNode.
Once she was done with that, she finally reached the GridNode in Downtown and attempted to disable it. It had two CCUs that needed disabling. The first one was a bit of a climb and involved manoeuvring atop a lot of delicate pipes which Faith did masterfully. The next CCU was a breeze in comparison and Faith successfully managed to shut it down, disabling the GridNode and unlocking the ability to travel freely in the Downtown area in addition to letting countless OutCaste rest easy knowing that KSEC will not apprehending them for any policy violations any time soon.
