Dragoon:
Based on the ship's exterior, why isn't there a doorway between Sector 6 and Sector 5 elevators? It would certainly make sense as the habitats are lined up in a circular fashion from the outside. All sectors contain hallways to adjacent ones.

That's a good point. It would have certainly reduced the leg work.

It is my guess that this survivor hid himself behind a Security Lock Door, and at some point once Samus disabled it, the X Parasites were able strike and consume him.

However, unlike the previous indistinguishable purple blobs of scientists from earlier, it is possible they had to either retain the scientist's brain and knowledge of the ship to activate something as deadly as the Main Boiler explosion to defeat our fair Samus once and for all OR because he was housing a Beam Core-X, it could've sustained more of a unaltered form similar to the fake Chozo Statue. In general, fighting these Beam Core-X's are best done on flat surfaces since any uneven ground makes it easy for Samus and the Parasite to exchange blows, which happens very frequently.
