Might be just me, but the Wide Beam (aka Spazer) always looks like Samus is shooting out donuts.
Samus' old friends from Zebes, the Etecoons and Dachoras (+ child) did indeed survive making the extra scene in Super Metroid canon. It sorta looked like the Dachora was bowing to Samus in thanks for releasing them, but I think it was more like it was checking on its infant. It is likely they were housed here rather than a habitat because they displayed the least hostile resistance AND/ OR the scientists did not have an artificial Zebes habitat available.
I have to wonder who exactly is making the repairs to the ship because it certainly seems implausible for a computer to make physical adjustments to fix the Main Elevator.
