MiSTer FPGA - Rastan (ラスタンサーガ) / Taito Arcade [BETA]
I've played this game since it released in 1987 and this is my first time clearing it! 6 credits used.
Got so close my last attempt and was shut down at the final battle. When reviewing the video I realized that staying on the upper platforms where it drops you was probably the best way to come at it, and that worked well on this run! Last time I made it with 0 lives and tried going under him to the other side when he jumped up. No dodging necessary in that fight unless you have super-low health when getting there. I'm playing the original Japanese release since it has the intro and story intact, and a meaningful scoreboard that doesn't let you quarter feed for the top spot. The game seems pretty much the same besides those differences and the title, so it's now my preferred version of Rastan.
The core is still in beta so there are likely some issues. After playing the past couple days I can say it's in great shape already gameplay-wise. There are some minor graphical issues like the top row not refreshing properly and screen tearing, but I'm currently unsure if these happen on original hardware also. When the core gets out of beta and has an official release on MiSTer, I'll return to this for a 1cc.
Adaptive scanlines seem to not work properly in Jotego's arcade cores so I am using the older brightened scanlines instead, which do not allow me to go as dark with the scanlines as I would have preferred for this video since it ruins the balance of brighter colors without proper adaptive support in the core.
