đăA Special Kind-Of Almost Made An Episode For You This Squiggy Christmas Failure Christmasă
Happy Holidays friends! Seasons's Greetings! Merry Christmas! Joyful Wednesday!
I hope you're all having a wonderful day friends, regardless of what you and yours celebrate. If you're celebrating, I hope you're having a great day with your friends and family, and if it's just a normal day for you, that wish for a fantastic afternoon is still there!
I tried to pull together a Christmas episode for this year, but as Intro Squiggs described, it just doesn't pan out sometimes. Not for lack of trying though! And we managed to cobble together the remnants of this hack into something at least.
This one was made by LevelEngine (or LevelEngineKiosk as he is known in the title, although I'm pretty sure he just goes by LevelEngine now), and oh boy was I not ready for what he had to throw at me. LevelEngine has devised a hack so insidious and evil that it ripped the holiday joy right out of my now-cold heart and replaced it with a salt flat. Trust me friends, this hack is pure hell in a can.
Although I'm slamming the design pretty hard throughout this video, I'd like to point out that most of my criticisms are aimed at the difficulty and are therefore subjective, however the one I find very valid is the frustrating way everything is placed. It started out feeling very purposeful and challenging and ended up feeling like literal torment -- a task I had been assigned because I didn't fulfill in life whatever my deity of choice asked of me. Every single minute is an assault on your concentration and movement, and it never, ever, ever lets up. If you manage to pull off an acrobatic backflip through four fire bars and a fish, you can expect three more fish and a firebar to be waiting on the other side.
The reason I bring all this up in the description is that I hate to be negative towards someone's creation when I feel like any part of that negativity has to do with subjective values like difficulty preference, but there's just something about this hack that rips it out of me. It's designed in a way that almost feels like a targeted attack comprised of everything that frustrates me in game design. That being said, I'm sure someone else playing this hack that likes to constantly think on their feet and has the reflexes and Mario skills to not die over and over to these challenges would find this one of their favourite hacks. So, as always, don't let some idiot on the internet like me tell you what's good and bad, go try it for yourself if you also want to feel like Sisyphus for an evening.
Anyways, enough about the level design, let's talk about Christmas a little. Are you out with your family right now? If you're hiding away from a social situation watching a YouTube video because you need a little break from it all, then me and you would probably get along on a lot of things, hahah. I love seeing my family and spending time with them. but a full day of it can be pretty exhausting sometimes. I just need a break every now and then to be with just myself.
I really should be getting ready, but rambling in YouTube descriptions has become a favourite timewasting hobby of mine and I'm not willing to give up on this relaxing alone time just yet. But the ham's in the oven and I'm expected to arrive in 45 minutes, so i guess it's about time I jump in that shower and race out the door to barely make it on time.
Have a wonderful day friends, and thanks so much for stopping by, and for the Christmas gift -- your presence is your present! I really mean that too. You all give me so much in my life through your enjoyment and support, it's hard for me to properly express how much my life has changed because of meeting all of you. YouTube is one of my favourite aspects of my life now and are the reason that I feel that way. Making connections with strangers across the world and knowing I'm able to provide a little level design insight and some entertainment makes me really creatively fulfilled, and that feeling carries through the rest of my life and makes me a more confident and generally happy person. Thank you all friends.
