The answer was so simple... I know a Dwarf! I brought Yagrum the books and he gave me his thoughts. According to his story, he didn't disappear because he was in a different realm, thus unaffected by whatever the doings of Kagrenac. One book was about Kagernac's theories, but Yagrum didn't want to explain them. The other book was a travel guide and the final book talks about the events leading up to the disappearance of the Dwarfs. I was satisfied with what he told me and I made my way back to Big Helende. My reward was a potion of shadows.
The rewards that I have "earned" through Helende have been nothing short but a pittance. All the gold in relation to the value of the items I am stealing has been so low that I must wonder if I offended her somehow. Perhaps she was aware of my encounter with Sottilde and as a result, is taking her vengeance upon me in the form of lower pay. I truly don't know but she had an optional job for me: Steal an Ebony staff from a wizard in Tel Branora. I took the job and made my way down to Tel Branora.
I found the tower in question and explored around looking for the Wizard named Felen. I would eventually find him and steal the staff. I am reminded that it should have been easy to collect a recipe and I was caught... Bad luck or poor execution on my end but I can't keep thinking about my mistakes. I must learn. Since I was nearby I took a detour to Vivec to report my findings regarding the Dwemer. Trebonius merely thanked me and had me be on my way. That mage truly doesn't deserve his position.
I met with Sjoring since I've been hearing he wanted to meet with me. He gave it to me straight: he's working for the Camonna Tong. He wants to break away from the Imperial ways and adopt Vvardenfell's methods. He gave me 5,000 gold to kill all thieves guild bosses. There it is again. That horrible choice to make. I nodded and left Vivec. When I returned to Helende she took the staff and gave me 250 gold and a telekinesis ring. That staff is worth at least 4300 gold. I won't lie, at that moment I highly considered Sjoring's offer.
I decided to meet with Hrundi and he sent me to a Dwemer ruin to assist a fellow fighters guild member with her revenge. I linked up with Larienna and we both fought our way through the ruins until she met with this Daedroth. This was her revenge so I let her fight it. She was victorious and thanked me for not interfering. Hrundi rewarded me with 500 gold. This pays better than that wretched thief. Hrundi then sent me to a mind for a rescue mission.
In the mine, there has been a break-in of Nix hounds. These hounds have chased someone deep into the mines and I am to find them and bring them back to safety. This is another simple task for which the reward was 250 gold. I again remind myself that Sjoring paid 5000 gold for the deaths of all thieves guild bosses including that awful High Elf, Helende. I need to let this go and be rid of these thoughts... Hrundi had another task for me: kill a corpus stalker in a shop at Tel Mora. I think I might know the lady running that shop.
