The longest segment yet. This is a pretty dangerous area, worse than I was expecting it to be at this point. Nearly all of the Wraiths and Shadows can one-shot me with Evocation spells if I'm not careful.

I try to mitigate this with healthy doses of Psychodrain, Prostasia (which I later determined does NOT help magic defense), and accessory choice. The Shadows are immune to Psychodrain, which I forget at some point and try on the last one. However, their elemental pattern is easier to remember for me than the Wraiths, so I just try to make sure I have the right accessory on for each one. I mess this up too in this run, 24:20 wearing the wind accessory into the water Shadow's room. I take a scary hit here, 240 damage. Just a few more points or another hit and my run would have ended there (as a reminder, under my Minimalist run conditions I can never take 250+ damage, as that's Ashley's starting HP value).

The bosses here (10:00 and 17:00) are disappointingly easy as long as you stay in close to them. It removes all of the threatening moves from their arsenal. I hate relying on this tactic, but under challenge conditions like this there's no wisdom in "fighting fair". Killing the Wyvern Knight yields the Chest Key.

The main reason to run the Maiden B1 under most run conditions is for a full set of Major Elemental Gems for the basic elements (Fire/Wind/Earth/Water). This is a particularly big deal on challenge runs that disallow random drops, because this gets me 2 Djinn Ambers (7:12), the only major elemental gem I can get two of. This will allow for affinity stacking high enough to overcome late game enemy defenses.

One final thing worth pointing out: 7:12 the Bull Shot found down here is extraordinarily easy to get, requiring no additional boss kills, and is one of--if not the--best weapons in the game (not counting crafting, obviously). I would advise anyone who's trying to do a normal "quick" or "minimal" Vagrant Story run to get the Bull Shot ASAP and rely on it heavily from that point.
