Spy movies are really cool, what with the entire cloak and dagger business, the suave gentlemanly debonair dudes who know at least twenty seven ways to kill you with a ball point pen, the traps, the danger, the suits, everything. Combine that with the popular genre of endless running games, and you've got Agent Run.
It may seem that this is just another endless runner. While it may be true that it is indeed an endless runner, that doesn't mean that it's just another run of the mill one. It's got a bunch of its own quirks that make it a unique experience.
The graphics are typical 2D graphics seen in many side scrolling endless runners. These however, are a bunch better than most of the other graphics seen in similar games. They're still not really much to wow over, but they're certainly of a higher caliber than a lot of the other games you see out there. Of particular note are the animations, of which there are a whole lot. They may be simple, but there's a quality to them that makes them stand out. You've got everything from the running agent, to the moving traps, and to all sorts of other stuff in between.
Sadly, you won't be hearing typical suave spy music here. Fortunately though, what's here is pretty good by itself. It sounds great, and working with the graphics provides a pretty spiffy gaming experience. It does have a bit of the cloak and dagger feel, but it's not exactly James Bond, but again that's not exactly a bad thing as it sets the game up as being its own unique little experience. You've also got a whole bunch of different sound effects, pretty much something to go with every effect you see on the screen.
The controls and the gameplay are fairly consistent with other endless runners. There is a bit of a twist though, as rather than dodging obstacles by jumping over them, sliding under them, or what-have-you, there's the option to destroy those obstacles by cutting them apart before they become an issue. It's a fun little addition, and a welcome one at that. In addition, you'll also have to interact with parts of the environment to get through, like opening doors before your agent gets to them so that he can continue running, or smashing apart crates to release a flood of gold coins (which are legal tender, I guess?) for your agent to pick up.
The game's not too hard to start out with, but it does get more complicated and frantic as things go on. It makes for some fun and manic swiping action as you run faster and faster along, with more and more traps and obstacles in your way. It's great, and while it won't exactly get your heart pumping, it'll certainly get your reflexes firing as you try to keep up with the pace of the game.
That wraps it up for this review, go on and grab yourself a free copy of Agent Run for some great endless running fun!
