Shine the light and let your small babies find you. Follow the adventures of this small firefly named Shiny in search for his babies in this adventure game called Shiny The Firefly. You need to control Shiny the firefly around the area and look for his babies. There's a specific number of baby fireflies you need to find. Once all the fireflies are gathered, you need to bring them back on the plant safely. Avoid various insects and even frogs or else you might lose your baby fireflies. You can also turn off your light but your babies will stop following you.

There are some games where just hearing the title pretty much gives you a crystal clear idea of just what the game is about. Then again, you've got games like Shiny the Firefly, which leaves you clueless as to what the game is about. Hopefully, that sense of curiosity will cause you to check the game out, as it's a real gem that you should absolutely try out.

As aforementioned, it's a bit difficult to figure out just what the game is about from the name alone. Even after loading it up for the first time, it can be a bit tricky. Some playing though, reveals it to be a bit like a platformer, but without all of that jumping up and down onto platformers. How's that work? Well, let's have a looksee.

It must be said that the game looks absolutely gorgeous. You've got beautiful 2D graphics that are drawn with the same love and care you'd see with big-budget games designed and built by gamers for gamers (tm, or patent pending, or whatever the term is). At times, it can even be tempting to just sit back, and take in all of the beautifully detailed scenery and effects, they're really that good. The closer you look, there's always some more level of detail just waiting to be ogled.

The music is likewise of the highest quality. You won't be hearing any sub-standard stock sound here, everything flows perfectly with the visuals, turning an already beautiful game that much more appealing with the excellent aesthetics and ambiance provided by the sound track.

All of that is nothing though, if the gameplay is substandard. And I'm glad to say that the gameplay is easily the best part of the game. Take away the gorgeous graphics, stunning sounds, and some alliteratively appropriate adjective music, and you'd still have a brilliant game. The game is, for lack of a better term, a platformer. You don't really jump from platform to platform though, as you're instead directing a flying firefly (the eponymous Shiny) with your tapping on the screen.

Of course, like with any good platformer, you've got all sorts of obstacles and bad guys in your way. Being a wee little firefly though, and not some macho Italian plumber or something, there's not all that much you can do. That's where the game gets fun, as you have to use what limited abilities you have to navigate the levels. It pays to observe the area for some time first, as the solutions to certain areas can become apparent with a little patience. Of course, as you can redo things as much as you want, there's also something to be said about jumping right in and having at it from time to time.

And that about wraps it up for this little review. If you're looking for a fun little puzzler and platformer with a unique twist in addition to absolutely beautiful graphics, then what are you waiting for? Go on and grab yourself a copy of Shiny the Firefly!
