Desmond awakens from his slumber, as he gains a little more insight as to what Warren, or more specifically Abstergo, wants to acquire. Peace in all things, the very same thing that the Asssassins fight for. But, Warren also states the fact that when peace is brought to civilization, all people will be told what to do and how they should act- peace through control, or rather tyranny for that matter. Regardless, Desmond returns to the Animus to relive the third memory block of Altaïr.

Having killed Tamir, Al Mualim restores Altaïr's second rank, allowing him to venture to either Arce or Jerusalem, where his next target awaits. Altaïr would ride for Arce, arriving at the misty and foggy city. Historically speaking, Acre was located east in the Mediterranian Sea, situated in western Galilee which is north of Israel. Arce would be the last stronghold the Knights Templar held before being expelled from the Holy Land, permanently.

Making his way into the city and into the Bureau located in the poor district, Altaïr is guided by Jabal, providing him information about his target: Garnier de Naplouse, who is the Grand Master of the Knights Hospitalier. The rest of the information is hunted by Altaïr, acquiring a work order for repairs and learning of absent soldiers from their duty. Having gathered these important details, Altaïr returns to Jabal and shares his knowledge about Garnier and how he'll strike the Grand Master. Satisfied, Jabal allows him to assassinate his target.

Once ready, Altaïr would make his way into the fortress where the Grand Master is at, encountering a scene where one of the 'patients' attempts to escape... only to be punished by having his legs broken. Having seen the cruelty from Garnier's hands, Altaïr would infiltrate the fortress, using the candelabras to sneak his way in and assassinate Garnier. In his dying breath, Garnier affirms his intentions, believing that he's 'saving' these people for the greater good, as they have no will of their own. Thus, Garnier dies, leaving Altaïr to flee the scene and return with the bloodied feather.

Returning to Masyaf, Altaïr expressed his confusion over the claims made by Garnier, but Al Mualim asserts that he should focus on his intuition, as people like Garnier would do anything to convince the people, manipulate them into their bidding. For now, his rank has been restore, and Altaïr prepares to depart to Jerusalem.

A bit of commentary from me, but I think what Garnier did to these mentally ill people was truly evil of him, good intention or not.
