The next morning, Desmond wakes up to see that Vidic is not in a happy mood like he was before. Perhaps ever since the Assassins' have been attempting to rescue Desmond, Abstergo security has been increasing, ready to take them down. Vidic is adamant about keeping his prisoner trapped forever until he is no longer of use to their cause. Lucy doesn't seem to be saying anything, focusing on operating the Animus. Without saying much, Desmond gets back into the Animus.

Altaïr, seeking clarity from Al Mualim is shown the Apple, an object that can control the minds of weak-willed individuals by simply observing it. The Templars had been after the Apple to control their respective lands. Each individual that Altaïr killed had their intentions, whether it was to supply arms, or rally the people, all in the name of war. With another of his ranks restored, Altaïr rides to his next destination to hunt down the remaining two targets.

Reaching Damascus, Altaïr spares no time in pleasant with Rafik, needing to know about his target: Jubair al-Hakim. He is Saladin's chief scholar, and he's been recently busy lately. He's been sending his other scholars to ransack libraries and burn the written information, spouting nonsense in the process. Seeing as Rafik doesn't listen to the rambles of madmen, Altaïr took upon it himself to learn more among the crowd. Even if that meant causing a little bit of chaos in the process.

Once gathering the necessary information, Altaïr tracks down Jubair attempting to burn another set of books in a library. One of his scholars sees the errors of his ways and attempts to convince the chief scholar that what they're doing is wrong. Jubair's response was to burn the man along with the books, then encourage the rest of the scholars to go out and burn all the books they could find. Altaïr manages to find Jubair among the crowd, assassinating him.

Demanding to know why, Altaïr explains that people must have the freedom to follow what they believe in, and not be punished for thinking differently. Jubair sees Altaïr as naive for thinking like that, claiming that the ancient text that Saladin read posed a danger to all around him. Nonetheless, the Templar succumbs to his wound, Altaïr fleeing again.

There is only one more Templar to hunt down.
