Assassin's Creed - Memory Block 6; Altaïr hunts down Robert; Desmond is the last remaining assassin after a failed rescue attempt.

Desmond wakes up once again, although this time he questions history and the misaligned context as shown in the Animus. Vidic simply states that the people who wrote history didn't have the means of unveiling true history via accessing secret knowledge, such as the Apple of Eden. To him, history is fabricated from the perspective of others, and thus the truth is buried in lies. Though I could be wrong myself. After all, nothing is true, everything is permitted, as Vidic so crudely states. Either way, Desmond returns to the Animus to relive Altaïr's life once again.

As for the assassin, Altaïr talks with Al Mualim, as they near their hunt. Robert de Sablé is the last person they need to hunt, although, throughout their discussion, Altaïr learns that both the Assassins and the Templars fight for the same common goal: Peace. The problem is that the Templars acquire peace through unethical/cruel methods, such as controlling the will of others or spreading fear, as we've seen from all the others. The Assassins want peace through freedom, where people are free to choose their own paths. So why is it that the two factions collude with each other so much?

While there's probably not a clear answer, it's something that'll be solved in another time. For now, Altaïr rides for Jerusalem to meet with Mailk one more time. Robert de Sablé is in the city, and whatever it is he's trying to do, the assassin will confront it. After interrogating a propagandist, assassinating some soldiers, and gathering intel from an informant, Altaïr readies himself to confront Robert, but not before he makes amends with Mailk. The two make up, as they now share the same goal and glory in defeating evil.

This is great character development for Altaïr. It really goes to show how far he's come as both an assassin and a person.

Altaïr visits a funeral, believing that Robert is there. But everything goes into a downward spiral, as the soldiers begin attacking Altaïr left and right, along with the supposed Robert. Just when Altaïr was about to assassinate him, it turns out... it's not even a him, it's a her- a woman! Altaïr flees the scene, realizing that Robert has left Jerusalem riding for Arsuf to plead his case that the Saracens and Crusaders must unite to destroy the Assassin Brotherhood.

Altaïr rides for Arsuf, fighting off soldiers from both sides as he goes to confront Robert, who is already talking to King Richard. However, the king has other ways of judging who is right and wrong. Altaïr and Robert fight, the former eventually triumphing over him and assassinating him. But in the end, it was a ruse. In his dying breath, Robert claims to be protecting Altaïr from danger, that Al Mualim is the real threat, the one behind all of this. Bewildered by such revelation, Altaïr rides back to Masyaf to seek the truth.

Desmond awakens to the sound of gunfire and chaos, realizing that the assassins were attempting to rescue him. But Abstergo security had already eliminated them in seconds. With no more assassins left behind, Desmond is all alone. The only thing he can do now is relive one last memory.
