After teaching the novice assassins to master their weapons, Altaïr rides for Acre, meeting with Jabal to learn of his next target, William of Montferrat. Name Regent while King Richard marches to Arsuf, it seems to be a strange choice given the political scuffle Acre faces. Rumors spread that each figure seeks to do harm to the other, which could potentially be bad for the citizens in the long run.
Although Altaïr does not see himself as a politician, Jabal reminds him that his acts change the course of history and the future for all the lands, thus making him a politician in a way. Regardless, the Rafiq sends the Assassin to investigate for further information about William. The Assassin performs pickpocketing, archery, and flag capturing to learn more from the informants.
Once all the necessary information about William has been collected, Altaïr returns to Jabal. Seems like Richard's sudden return soured Montferrat's mood, and now he plans on weeping in the fortress. This should work to Altaïr's advantage once the meeting has come to an end.
Infiltrating the fortress after the brief conversation, Altaïr witnesses Montferrat's weakness, using the deaths of two men to try and raise morale. Once the crowd has cleared, Altaïr moves in for the kill, assassinating William. Nearing the end of his life, William denied the claim that he sought to kill Richard and give the city to his son Conrad. Rather, Acre belongs to the people, and he only sought to keep the peace. Before dying, he accuses Altaïr of dooming the cities he visited to new enemies.
Doubt swells once more, as Altaïr returns to Masyaf to understand more about the intentions of his enemies from Al Mualim.
