It's the last memory, and Desmond is awakened earlier than usual. Without anything left to say to Vidic, the last assassin is placed in the Animus to relive the last memory of Altaïr. The whole scene is dead silent.
Altaïr returns to Masyaf to witness the people bewitched... and the way they speak is drone-like. He's suddenly attacked by possessed assassins, forcing Altaïr to kill them in self-defense. Just when more was about to ambush him, Mailk and his men came to aid the assassin, having learned the terrible truth of Al Mualim and his intentions. He didn't want to save the Holy Land, he wanted the people to deliver it to him. After planning a way to break into the fortress, Altaïr confronts Al Mualim.
He is suddenly ambushed by his master, who is in possession of the Piece of Eden. That power resonating from the device is responsible for brainwashing people into thralls, as it holds Altaïr bound. Using the device, Al Mualim summons illusions of the nine that Altaïr had killed, forcing the assassin to fight for his life. But even as he fought, the last thing standing in his way was his own master.
With all reason thrown out the window, Altaïr has no choice but to murder his master. In killing Al Mualim, Altaïr uncovers the Piece of Eden and the information it possesses: a map of the world, and the locations of other Pieces of Eden. With the information now acquired in their grasp, Vidic and Abstergo end the session, preparing to let Desmond be killed, where it is not for Lucy's intervention.
Desmond is left alone again, but this time he's beginning to see things like Altaïr... scribes and numbers. What do they all mean?
