Borderlands 3 - i5 4690K & GTX 1070 - FPS Test and Settings
Greetings, everyone.
After my initial upload of a video for Borderlands 3 regarding this annoying stuttering bug, it’s time for the proper full-dive on settings and performance video.
As usual, my current PC specs are as follows:
-CPU: i5 4690K@4.4 GHz with Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO.
-Mobo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger (Z97).
-GPU: Inno3D Twin X2 GTX 1070 (stock) and WHQL driver 436.30.
-RAM: 16 GB DDR3@1866, 9-10-9-28.
-Storage: Kingston SSDNow 300, 240 GB (O.S.), Samsung 750 EVO 500 GB (Game).
-O.S: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit with latest updates.
-Monitor: AOC AGON AG251FG 1080p-240Hz
This is a long one, since the game comes with built-in benchmark, so a good part of this video is focused on just doing benchmark runs with different presets, it’s a fun way to have decently comparable results among users, so yeah, cool, I like benchmarks in games, they make life easier.
For control settings and keybinds/button mappings, the game does a decent job, especially for gamepads, I reckon, almost everything is customizable there, at least for my Dualshock 4 v2. For keyboard and mouse, nice sensitivity choices, not limited anymore by the 10 minimum from previous games, also it’s granular now in increments of one. Separate settings for ADS and vehicles are a welcome bonus, too.
Now, the bad part of the controls: left handed shenanigans… ah, my nemesis, we meet again; not so bad this time around, but some keys for in game menus are hard-coded, for no reason, and the arrow keys cannot be used for “air control” for vehicles, at the same time as used for on foot movement…meh, we’ll see how it goes, I’m playing quite alright so far, and having a blast.
Performance scales a lot from the Medium preset to High, or vice versa, you know what I mean. Things like Materials or Volumetric Fog are quite taxing, as expected, so having at least those two set to High, or even Medium, gives a substantial boost, while the rest can remain safely at higher settings, since their impact on performance is inferior.
Special mention once again to the nasty stuttering bug when aiming down the sights…especially with scopes. Don’t know when it’ll be fixed, hopefully soon, my previous video deals with this issue and a somewhat useful workaround, for most people.
All in all…I can run the game at decent settings and frame rates, but it feels a bit lacking on the polish, so I expect patches soon; I haven’t found any game-breaking bugs for now myself, although the DX12 implementation is very, very bad and buggy, people are reporting, so best avoid it altogether unless a patch addresses that (or driver, who knows).
