(CCPlays) Cold Waters Dot MOD | Y2K NATO Campaign | Part 22: Getting Through Heavy Traffic
Previously, in the Cold Waters (DotMod) Y2000 NATO campaign, we have just eliminated the subs carrying PLAN commandos heading to raid Taiwan.
01-OCT-00 Received new priority mission
MISSION: Intercept PLAN battlegroup near Spratly Islands, priority targets are the ships capable of launching anti-ship missiles.
We are just south of Taiwan so I decided to check the coast. Ran into several sub groups.
Submerged for a contact... Turned out to be a Victor III, a VERY deadly opponent. I had fired a torpedo up its baffles, then it just vanished. I realized something's up, as I turned northwest to evade, and indeed, there comes the responding torpedo... Except... TWO Vyuga SUBROCs arrived first. Argh, ended up taking one hit, as that one managed to drop the torpedo literally yards from me. I snapshot 2 torpedoes as counterfire, AND a MOSS decoy for the other incoming torpedo, and with a judicious turn, the closer torpedo went for the decoy, esp. when I also stopped dead in the water.
Only one compartment flooded, which the Seawolf can handle, as soon as the pumps are fixed and other threats dealt with. I also went up to 30m depth.
I activated both torpedoes to engage seeking mode, which is faster, but eats batteries twice as hard (half the endurance).
The two torpedoes caught the Victor III after a little struggle, while I reached 30m and managed to clear the ship of flooding. Hull is down to 36%, but otherwise, no component damage.
We headed south toward the Spratlys only to run into an ASW group.
Sonar ID the group as Jianghu3, Luda, and Jiangwei. All three were sunk. Though the air patrols did get a bit close.
We then hit another sub as we headed south in shallow waters.
We got a surprise active ping. I immediately turned fire with a torpedo, but with a dogleg while we ran south. And surprisingly, it killed a Victor III. We decided to run, and ignore the other contacts.
We tried to go south, and was blocked yet AGAIN by another sub-group. Somehow we ended up in even shallower waters. Ended up engaging a Han and something else in a super-shallow dogfight (turned out to be another Victor III) and was able to sink BOTH without taking any hits.
We got yet ANOTHER sub group that intercepted us in less than 100m of water. With 3 merchants as cover, we decided to run south and not engage anyone.
And the war continues...
