Gameplay of Cities Skylines running on Ubuntu 15.04 64bit natively!

Cities Skylines has been released for Linux day one natively! This is the contender to Sim City 5, and it looks set to beat it well off into the distance.

Timeline:
1. Fullscreen gameplay 1:17
2. Windowed-mode gameplay 9:53

While I don't go into a super sized city right off the bat (I've only just purchased the game), I do go into building a small urban city and explore the view up close and at a distance to measure performance.

While the game runs, and it runs well (no crashes, loading is super fast), it does seem to suffer from a serious fps performance hit. Apparently this performance hit only happened a short while before release, so there's potential for a fix to bring fps back up into the high region.

Take note though, without SimpleScreenRecorder recording it, I can achieve fps upwards to 40. So, SSR is leaching quite a bit off, but it's most definitely not the cause for the minimum fps being experienced.

WARNING: I have no idea how this works for AMD and Intel graphics users. You may be ok, or you may suffer some peculiarities. It all depends on your drivers and how well AMD and Intel decide to make them.

The recommended requirements for Cities Skylines should really be the lowest possible hardware that can run this game on Linux well enough.

If you're into City building simulator games, go ahead and show the developers some Linux love and buy it on Steam now!
