As requested, here is a benchmark look at Team Fortress 2 running on Ubuntu and Windows. This time around with an AMD GPU.

I am using the Open Source Radeon drivers on Ubuntu (Mesa 10.6.0-devel) and the Catalyst 15.3 drivers on Windows. Absolute latest for both systems.

Timeline:

2. Min Settings benchmark 0:25
3. Max Settings benchmark 5:34
4. Summary 10:49

Sorry if my voice gets rather quiet or unenthusiastic, I was going through a migraine during the production of this video.

This video is slightly longer than normal, due to me trying to play as many classes as possible.

If you're interested in running through the same benchmark, just download my .dem file here and run it in TF2:

I run through two scenarios, one is minimum graphical settings and the other is maximum graphical settings.

The Linux port utilizes OpenGL 3 while the Windows port utilizes Direct3D 9 for graphics rendering.

I may have made mistakes, and if I have done so, please forgive me and correct me in the comments. I've tried to do this benchmark to the best of my knowledge and capabilities.

My verdict: While the Radeon OSS drivers are an improvement over the Linux Catalyst drivers, it would seem AMD still focus their performance on their Windows Catalyst drivers instead.

I used GLXOSD for the OSD on Ubuntu.
I used MSI Afterburner for the OSD on Windows.

WARNING: Intel and Nvidia graphics users will experience vastly different results. It all depends on your drivers and how well AMD and Intel decides to make them.

This is a good fun Linux port from Valve, so if you are into competitive comedic first person shooters go and play this game! It's FREE!
