D!Zone 150 - 11BONES.WAD w/ 3D spatial sound in GZDoom 🎧 (OpenAL Soft HRTF audio)
Use headphones only with any virtual surround features turned off. Best HRTF effects at 0:57 and 1:53. I'm playing this with Per Kristian's hi-def soundpack as well as MarphitimusBlackimus's Doom 2 Minor Sprite Fixing Project v1.9 for better-than-vanilla gameplay. Sorry about the filtering; it was for video playback, I swear.
D!Zone is a name that's nostalgic for a lot of Doom fans from the early '90s, but is probably unknown to most young Millenials who only know Doom from Brutal mods and, I don't know...Vinesauce streams? Anyway, D!Zone was a series of CDs by WizardWorks that were compilations of large numbers of custom Doom maps. Often times, these numbers were inflated by shoddy, duplicate Doom II conversions with no regards to balance. D!Zone and other _!Zone CDs garnered a reputation of being shovelware since 99% of the maps were usually garbage and could be downloaded for free on the internet. Still, in a time when a single PWAD could take over 20 minutes to download, they filled their own niche. D!Zone also offered utilities that could randomize monsters within a pre-existing level.
The PWAD showcased in this video is "11BONES.WAD". It was not chosen for any kind of sentimental value but rather because of its placement as the first map in D!Zone 150. Most people familiar with D!Zone 150 would probably remember 11BONES.WAD for that reason. D!Zone 150 actually has two genuine, underrated classics in UACPEN.WAD and MEGAWATT.WAD, but they'd be too boring to watch since UACPEN.WAD is fairly long and they're both tedious by the modern Doomer's standards.
