The Lost Episodes of Doom w/ 3D spatial sound in GZDoom 🎧 (OpenAL Soft HRTF audio)
Use headphones only with any virtual surround features turned off. Best HRTF effects at 3:53. I'm playing this with Per Kristian's hi-def soundpack as well as MarphitimusBlackimus's Doom 2 Minor Sprite Fixing Project v1.9 for better-than-vanilla gameplay. Sorry about the filtering; it was for video playback, I swear.
This is "The Lost Episodes of Doom" with OpenAL Soft's HRTF in GZDoom. In 1995, a man named Jonathan Mendoza contacted Christen David Klie (of Master Levels, Outlaws, and Rogue Squadron fame) and Bob Carter in order to publish their previously free PWADs as a commercial product with a tie-in strategy guide. They agreed, and the first-ever commercial MegaWAD for Doom was released all without the permission of id themselves. Now, this footage isn't really the product itself, but rather CHRIS_K.WAD which contains half the levels. Only E3M7 hasn't been located anywhere on the web.
For those of you unfamiliar with this man, Chris Klie represents all the worst aspects of retro FPS game design. He had this irresistable urge to fill all his maps with the most needlessly drawn-out puzzles ever designed. Often times, this was to the exclusion of engaging monster encounters. Even in his Outlaws "Historical Missions", you really get the sense that Chris Klie did not enjoy anything that was fun or straightforward. On the other hand, he did have the sense to quit Daikatana so maybe he does have some taste after all.
If you ever want to reconsider your love for retro FPS games, then give BF_THUD! a try someday. You will regret it when you see that MAP06 minimap.
