Exit Fate #20 - Keyser's Plan
Exit Fate is a role playing game made in RPGMaker by SCF. With 75 characters to recruit, a mixture of typical turn based combat and war battles, and an engaging story, the result is a very Suikoden-esque game.

Starting out by preparing for the upcoming war battle. Daniel's unit stays the same while Ljusalf gets some pretty big upgrades by switching Cid for Carson (30 men, +1 atk) while filling his third slot with Yan Angwa (40 men, +1 atk & def). The rest of the war commanders just fill out slots for extra durability.
When you're ready to go, let Carson know and you'll be in the forest just outside Amen Corner. There's just one rather strange problem...according to a scout that took scope of the town, it's deserted and nobody's walking the streets, not even Kirgard troops. Something's fishy here so Daniel's going to take Ayara and a few other people to check out the town. Make sure to include Joe in your lineup since there's a boss battle incoming with some good steals on tap.
In Amen Corner, Daniel & Ayara confirm what the scout had said. The townspeople staying indoors makes sense, but what about Kirgard then? That's when Daniel has a shocking realization...Kirgard didn't abandon the town, but rather withdrew to attack Mayfall.
Keyser's plan looked like it had a crack, but that's what he wanted the State Army to think. If he were to attack Mayfall head on, he'd be risking a pincer attack from both them & the State Army. If he got Mayfall to attack earlier than the State Army, a feat that's likely easy to do via intercepting a message or sending out his own and making it look like Mayfall sent it, it'd be all too easy to rout Mayfall without needing to protect the rear.
To congratulate Daniel for his astute detective work, two Kirgard commandos come out of a nearby house and their names are Trevor & Sick. They're only tasked with slowing down the State Army while possibly trying to fool around at the same time. Capital!
In combat, Trevor is the one wielding a rather large two handed sword while Sick is the one in the back showing off his best kung fu stance. Trevor focuses on high damage physical strikes while Sick trades in some physical might for some magical aptitude.
If you're going to make one of the two your primary target, make it Trevor. That's because he has a move where he charges for one turn, then on his next turn, unleashes Dark Slash which hits a column for some pretty hefty physical damage. This is very likely going to hit one of your mages which is what makes it a dangerous move.
Steal wise, Trevor has a very nice Black Kirgard Plate (10 pdf, 5 wgt, boosts strength by 2) while Sick has a copy of Mend-All.
After the fight, the wacky commando duo retreats, but not before Trevor gets a double ice burn courtesy of Daniel & Sick.
As the rest of the crew comes in to check out the town, Carson learns from a townperson that the Kirgard forces did leave a few hours ago sans for Trevor & Sick. That means Mayfall may already be under Kirgard control, but we won't know until we try to attack.
The problem? Kirgard has already taken control of Mayfall as evidenced when Keyser, Bruce, and the entire second legion are outside town. Maybe we still have a chance?
Elysium Army's men - 2880
Kirgard 2nd Legion's men - 5900
Uh...yeah, we are not winning this I think...and that's exactly what the game expects to happen as a cutscene will trigger once enough damage has been dealt, but it does give me a chance to show off a rather abusable bug with war battles.
Basically, if you select a unit, then a tile you want to move them to and press the confirm & cancel buttons simultaneously, you'll move without using that unit's turn, allowing you infinite movement until you perform an action that ends their turn.
After the failed attack, Daniel's army is forced to retreat, but not before Daniel has a chance to ask about Brunhild. Bruce, rather than mocking Daniel for his war failure, ends up mentioning that there's a Brunhild who's the supreme commander of the Almenga Empire. No doubt the same one Daniel conversed with in the past.
After the scene switches back to Elysium Castle, Daniel needs to go visit Erin at Matrech to report what happened at Mayfall. One timeskip later and he pops up at Erin's office.
As Daniel recounts the events of that battle, it seems like the State Army's options for retaking Mayfall are dwindling fast, but Ryan mentions there is one man who's bested Keyser in the past, a certain Major Gunwood, former chief advisor of the Matrech Guard. He's currently living in the mountains of Grunthall so maybe if Daniel mentions that they're trying to topple Keyser. he'll be inclined to help out.
Next time, we visit Gunwood.
