The challenge continues with the next two storyline maps - the mandatory chapter 3 and the optional paralogue in which Donnel is recruited. I previously mentioned I wasn't sure if Donnel would be recruited or not - technically, going into his map is an opportunity to train the army and level everyone up, but Donnel's recruitment alone also means a scrubbier party in the end, as I have to switch more units in and out when they outclass the others in level. Less stability is probably a positive for the run. I guess I'll still have to decide if I'm recruiting Anna and Tiki in the same way as the other adult units in the game; they could bring more of the same despite not requiring any babying - I suppose a YouTube community poll is in order to help me decide.

Chapter 3: Warrior Realm

The first map fought without Frederick being forced in the party. Chrom loses his broken support partner, as does the rest of the army - the newcomer lv. 1 Sumia normally has an easy road to stardom after spending any time with Fred at all in a normal Hard Mode run, easily 2HKOing and being largely impervious to damage incurred. Because of the units' tendency to lose their support partners to lower-levelled allies, it helps to have supports with as many different characters as possible.

That's exactly what I work on during this map, as enemy density is generally tolerable to allow feeding kills to whomever, with foes being easily pulled in groups of three to four. Chrom focuses on building his support with Vaike, another male unit he can't easily get to S-rank support thanks to the storyline (I do intend to marry Robin in this run for Levin Master Chrom memes), while the newly recruited Kellam works on his relationship with Stahl. Together, the two form a physical wall that's very hard to penetrate by physical attackers. Both Vaike and Kellam are units I want to keep in the army for as long as possible as pair-up fodder, their bonuses to attack and defence being great for the faster units, which we never have a shortage of.

Miriel appreciates Robin for the magic increases, and indeed Robin is great for just about anyone wanting offensive stats. Sully and Sumia, just like the other three pairs, also have a same-sex support, granting each other highly beneficial boosts to the stats that matter. Lissa and Virion end up not pairing up at all, Lissa healbotting when absolutely necessary (staffing gives fairly good exp, and we'd rather not be left entirely without a healer) and Virion contributing chip damage but mostly self-improving so that he can be reclassed to Wyvern somewhere down the line.

Paralogue 1: Sickle to Sword

Donnel joins as a villager with awful bases, largely due to his class's poor bases. A reclass into Fighter will fix this when we get him to level 10, which won't be happening very soon with the constant shuffling of units, but it will happen around the time Second Seals become available to us.

On Hard mode, it's not impossible to feed Donnel kills as he tends to deal decent enough damage when paired with anyone granting attack. Stahl helps him survive a single round of combat against anybody but the boss, and the latter can also be achieved by getting lucky enough with level-ups with some help from Aptitude.

My support pairs remain mostly unchanged since the previous map, with Kellam and Virion joining Frederick on the bench. Donnel is useless as a support bot for now, but since I focus on babying him intensively in this map, Stahl doesn't mind.

The thieves running away in this map can help us retrieve some of the treasure without using up a chest key, which is handy for unlocking things without having Gaius in the active party. Above all, they're invaluable as a source of substantial experience for Donnel, whose stats are still nothing to write home about when the chapter is completed. It isn't very difficult to deal with the waves of enemies, though hurrying to reach escaping thieves can indeed lead to situations when party members are endangered. There really is no real risk of having a thief run away with the treasure.

The killer lance will soon enough be usable by the Discipline cavs and Sumia, and I'm sure I'll always have uses for Rescue, even without a low-turn focus in this run, as characters can also be rescued out of danger.
