How to Find Serial Number to See if iPhone is New or Refurbished
Steps to Find Serial Number and Check New vs. Refurbished
Find Serial Number on iPhone:
Open Settings - General - About.
Locate Serial Number (12 characters, alphanumeric). Copy or note it.
Alternative Locations:
On the original box (barcode label).
SIM tray (engraved on iPhone 6s and earlier).
Dial *#06# to display IMEI, then cross-reference with Settings for serial.
Time: 1 minute.
Check Model Number for New/Refurbished Status:
In Settings - General - About, find Model Number (starts with a letter):
M: Brand-new iPhone sold by Apple.
F: Apple Certified Refurbished (sold by Apple, new battery/shell).
N: Replacement device (from warranty/repair, treated as new/refurbished).
P: Personalized/engraved iPhone (typically new).
Time: 1 minute.
What It Tells You: The model number directly indicates new or refurbished status.
Verify with Apple’s Coverage Check:
Go to check coverage apple on any browser.
Enter the Serial Number, complete CAPTCHA, and click Continue.
Review results:
Valid Purchase Date: Recent date (within 1–2 years) suggests new; older date may indicate refurbished/used.
Limited Warranty:
Active (e.g., “Expires: [Date]”): New or Apple Certified Refurbished (both get one-year warranty from activation).
Expired: Likely used or third-party refurbished.
AppleCare Eligible: If within 60 days of activation, likely new; Apple Certified Refurbished may also show eligibility.
