Let's Play Binary Domain | Episode 3: Mifune | Chapter 2: Yearn for Refuge | Lancer + Spider Boss
Welcome back to Binary Domain, a futuristic Sci-Fi Third Person Shooter Developed by SEGA that takes place in Japan in the year 2080. Cybernetics have advanced and androids are being used as the predominant force in the world. In order to maintian laws and peace, the New Geneva Convention has been signed and a special task force named RUST has been prepared to deal with international violations in the field of robotics and robotic warfare. Our protagonist, Daniel Marshall, belongs to RUST and has been tasked with infiltrating Japan and arresting Amada, a genius in the field of Robotics, for his transgressions. To that effect, other members of RUST will also be joining them. The game focuses primarily on shootouts, but it also has RPG mechanics with gear and upgrades. It also features a trust system for all your allies that determines how favourably they follow you or respond to your commands. The game also has a voice command feature for deeper immersion, but we have kept that turned off since we are employing commentary.
Having rendezvoused with the rest of the squad, they take a hike to Shibuya to meet a local contact that can provide them with a way into the upper levels, where all the wealthy people find their refuge, including Amada.
They decide to split into two teams moving forward, an advance party to clear the way and a rearguard to deal with the stragglers. This strategy ensures that there would be at least one team that would be able to uphold the mission should anything unfortunate was to occur.
On the way to a bar in the slums of Shibuya, they find a Grand Lancer interrupting their party. Perhaps it is the same one that had been chasing them all this while. However, with contact now established with HQ, they could manage to figure out a weakness and exploit it to end the thing without using fancy waeponry to aid them. While Lee and Bo distracted the titan, Dan exposed the head of the machine and jumped on to it so that he could shoot it in the core and destroy it.
A short hike later, the team rendezvoused at the bar with the contact once again. But the bartender kept insisting that there was noone who went by the name of Mifune there. It was finally Dan who figured out that Mifune was actually watching them through the Robot that was helping at the bar. Mifune, in turn, told them to head to an underground mall where he could place some people who would take them to him.
The second expedition team involved Dan, Charlie, and Rachel, which was a poor decision in hindisght given the large, open areas that were left up to CBQ specialists to handle. Their first obstacle was a blocked door which they could only manage to open using a canister full of gas. However, the enemy was hot on their tail and relentlessly kept sending reinforcements. This caused the operation to fail twice as stray bullets hit the canisters and caused them to explode. When things finally got better in the end, they shot the barrel and carved the way ahead only to find themselves in the midst of an ambush by a single machine: a gigantic spider bot.
They tried to take refuge in a building, but the spider succesfully caved it, drawing them out. This is the point where they decided to take their final stand and fight it. Luckily, there were Rocket Launchers lying around for Dan to use. The only way to defeat it was to either shoot rockets up its belly until it died or expose all the reactor cores at its knees and methodically cripple it by eliminating one leg at a time.
The team then headed into the mall to find a bunch of kids who took them to the Shibuya lower floors to meet Mifune. Charlie then told Dan to ask around for information and just as Dan was about to go meet Mifune, he was stopped by a strange spectacle in the middle of the streets. The mafia had dragged in a Hollow Child, an android who did not know that he was an android and belived itself to be human. After learning the truth, and losing his identity in the process, the andorid took its own life in a daze of congitive dissonance.
Finally, the team then proceeded to the meeting point.
