So last time, we finished the 'Imperial China' era, which focuses on kung-fu 'shifu' (master) 'Earthen Heart'. This was recommended as one of the more 'enthralling' chapters, but it really didn't enthrall me. It was, however, an easy character to start with to learn the basic mechanics of the game. This next chapter is also fairly easy and contains little in the form of actual combat. Where are we going next? Or maybe I should say... when?

CHAPTER 4 - CUBE (DISTANT FUTURE)

So long Imperial China, we're crossing over from history into fiction as we delve into this next era, which is quite literally called the 'Distant Future'. Welcome aboard the space transport freighter, 'Cogito Ergo Sum'. This large vessel has a crew of just six.

In this chapter, you are 'Cube', a small, spherical robot built and activated by the ship's engineer, Kato. In this scenario is may not always seem obvious where to go and who to speak to. Thankfully, if you look on the radar, these things will plainly be labeled for you. It really makes this scenario a breeze, as there are three floors and I never remember what's where.

Anyway, Cube will be registered as a crewmate and his first task will be to wake the rest of the crew from cryostasis. The captain, along with Kato were the only two woken up previously.

Here, we'll meet:
Kirk Wells, Helmsman
Rachel Klein, Signaller
Huey Trumbull, Chief Mate & Head of Cargo
Corporal Darth

After some brief introductions, they'll al head to the recreational room for the briefing. Simply use the radar to get you there and you'll see who to talk to to get things moving. Eventually, the captain will appear on monitor. After a very quick briefing, he'll leave again. He's acting kinda sus...

After the briefing, you'll go with Kato to meet the ship's central AI: Decimus and then tour the cargo hold, where you will see the behemoth being held there. Afterwards we'll head to the bridge, where we learn of a problem with one of the antennas.

The plan is for Kirk and Huey to spacewalk and visually inspect what the problem is. Everything seems to go well, when suddenly Kirk cries out for help. He unfortunately doesn't make it, as it's apparent that his spacesuit was either faulty or sabotaged. In the med bay, they make futile attempts to resuscitate him, but it's unsuccessful.

There is a weird explosion, followed by an even weirder video briefing with the captain. Then we head to Kirk's room, to gather any personal items he might want to be buried with.

Ok, this is the only part of the whole scenario that isn't painfully obvious. But when you're in Kirk's room, Kato will mention a book he finds here and how Kirk always says 'Warp Speed'. To their right, there is a computer panel which will ask for a password. Type in 'Warp Speed'.

You'll get a message to check the foot of the bed. There, you'll find a 'memory card'. You can use this to play the arcade game in the rec room. It lets you actually save your progress (in the arcade game). But you don't actually get anything for beating this game. It's apparently aimed at teaching you the basics of combat.

Anyway... after that, head to the med bay to discover that Kirk's body is missing. Rachel is going cuckoo and takes his body to her room. When everyone confronts her, the computer panel seems to make her believe it's actually Kirk. It tells her to go to the airlock and that he's waiting for her outside of it!

Ok, things are getting nuts... At the airlock, you'll watch a tense scene where Cube almost gets blown outside! Thankfully Kato was able to save him. But that's not all! The behemoth is now loose! You'll have to leave the room while evading it, otherwise it's game over.

You're treated to one more creepy video briefing from the "captain". His responses in the video seem to loop and repeat before cutting out. In a moment of clarity, Rachel remembers the behemoth is still loose and runs off to protect Kirk's body from it. Huey takes off after her.

Darthe, Kato and Cube remain in the rec room for now. Here's where I decide to take a break. I think this might just be a two-parter, so join us next time for what might possibly be the conclusion to the Distant Future scenario!
