Last time, we finished the 'Twilight of Edo Japan' era. This game is largely shaping up to be more of a visual novel than an actual RPG, but some of the scenes are very enthralling. As we continue to swing between the past and the future, we'll now visit one of the more 'out there' stories we'll encounter in this game. It could be one day soon, but not yet...

CHAPTER 11 - AKIRA (NEAR FUTURE)

As I've mentioned many a time, the 'Twilight of Edo Japan' is the longest. But judging from a walkthrough I'm using, the 'Near Future' is quite possibly just as long, or only a hair shorter.

In this era, we meet our protagonist, Akira. He was orphaned at a young age when his police officer father was killed by a member of the villainous biker gang, the Crusaders. Akira and his sister Kaori are then taken to an orphanage.

Time then passes, however Akira begins to become aware that he possesses certain powers: the ability to read minds and move things without touching them. After the brief intro scenes, we gain control of Akira after he wakes up on a bench in the park.

Take Akira out for a spin. He can speak to people and also read their minds by pressing X. As you make your way to the east side of the park, you'll be stopped by four Crusaders. A man on a motorcycle shows up and joins you. This is your friend, Matsu. You'll now battle the four Crusaders.

Using Akira's move, 'Mother's Shame' has a wide range and can possibly pick off a couple of these creeps. This should be a brain-dead easy battle. Afterwards, Matsu will take you home. Even though I didn't take a single hit in the battle, Akira is bleeding somehow lol.

Make the rounds in the orphanage. In order to proceed, you'll need to speak with Watanabe. He's the kid all the way to the left by the tv. You can also go check on your sister, Kaori. She appears worried about her sick pet turtle, Tarokichi. Eventually, you'll suggest going to go see Doc. Tobei.

Now you'll get to walk on the world map. You'll notice Crusaders are patrolling the streets. Follow the radar to Doc Tobei's and watch the scene play out there. He'll suggest using his matter transporter to teleport back to the orphanage, but it breaks. He'll tell you to go on ahead.

Back at the orphanage, Doc Tobei's solution is to transfer Tarokichi's consciousness into a robot. Kind of a "ghost in the shell" situation, no pun intended. Doc Tobei will keep mistakenly calling the turtle Taroimo and the name sticks in the new form. The robo-turtle strangely joins your party now.

So now, there's a weird scene where Watanabe wants to meet you in the bathroom to discuss your "plan". You'll first have to go to the laundry room and talk to Taeko for her to leave. Also grab the items in the bathroom to the left and at the washing machine.

Head into the bathroom and have Akira take a seat. Watanabe will show up later and start giving you stuff. After he leaves, simply sit back down and he'll come back. Keep doing this until Taeko catches you. Then equip all the stuff you got from Watanabe on Akira and Taroimo.

We're now free to actually leave the orphanage. As we leave, we're going to save. We should be about one-third of the way through with this scenario now.
