Live A Live Remake - Ch. 13 - The Outsider (Near Future)
Last time, we delved further into the wonderfully weird world of the near future. We learned that Dr. Tobei has a giant robot hidden below his antique shop and although Akira has psychic powers, he is unable to pilot it. Kazu was kidnapped and we learned the Crusaders were rounding people up and taking them to Tsukaba Labs. Here we found tons of weird shit, like a room full of liquified human souls. This isn't going to end well, is it? Ready or not, here comes the conclusion for the 'Near Future' era.
CHAPTER 13 - THE OUTSIDER (NEAR FUTURE)
We left off very close to our goal here in Tsukaba Labs. We probed around and found some useful info, now it's time to confront General Yamazaki in the final chamber. After the dialogue, a large mech-style robot will enter. This is Unit W1...
BOSS FIGHT - UNIT W1
This guy is tough but not impossible. But you can cheese your way through this fight using the following strategy: have Akira stand behind it and use 'Elbow Strike'. In one of the previous rooms, we learned by reading someone's mind that Unit W1 has exposed wires on its back panel. The research worker didn't want to stay late to fix it. So just give it the old Elbow Strike, otherwise you're in for a very tough boss battle.
Tragically after the fight, you learn that the robot contained the liquified soul of Watanabe's dad... and then it blows up. This game is very randomly dark.
Anyway, after the fight it will trigger a long sequence where you regroup back at the orphanage. Eventually Lawless/Matsui/Kinichi will leave to attempt to pilot the Steel Titan, but he fails. Dr. Tobei tells you he went to the bar to drown his sorrows. The bar is just north of the orphanage. I think it's one of the only other places on the map you can visit.
This is a 'matango' bar, which is some sort of weird drug that helps you focus. Lawless will be here feeling sorry for himself for not being able to help. Head back to the orphanage and you'll witness the Crusaders setting it ablaze. Akira will run inside to try and save Taeko and Kaori.
It will cut back to Lawless who heads to Dr. Tobei's to ask for one last chance. This time Lawless brings a ton of matango with him and begins to consume it all at once. Dr. Tobei mentions that such a large amount will kill him. Strangely enough, this activates whatever latent psychic power Lawless has and he is able to move the Steel Titan.
Back at the orphanage, the building is about to collapse, but they are saved by Lawless and the Steel Titan. The Crusaders will attempt to stop him, but he overwhelms them with his power. When the immediate danger fades, it becomes apparent that Lawless is now dying.
Akira channels the anger from Lawless's death and is able to use his psychic powers to move the Steel Titan. For the remaining playable part of this scenario, you will move and fight as just the Steel Titan. With his last words, Lawless tells you to take the Steel Titan to the temple on the north side of town.
As you head there using the titan, you'll be interrupted by fighter jets and blocked by enemies in the street. When you finally reach the temple, it will be revealed that 2,000 souls have be liquified and tributed to bring the Greak Inko to life. In the sequence that follows, the large statue behind the lake will come to life.
BOSS BATTLE - GREAT INKO
This fight is not tough at all. I found that the strongest move is 'Babylon Stomp'. But the damage calculations seem largely arbitrary. If you keep up the pummeling, there should be no way you lose.
After the battle, just sit back and enjoy the end scenes. We've now finished the 'Near Future' era, which puts us at about halfway through the main story of the game.
