So last time, we delved a little further into our mission in the 'Twilight of Edo' era. Our protagonist, Oboromaru, has been tasked with rescuing a prisoner from the dungeon of Ode Castle. In the last video we managed to do just that! Well, we freed him but we're still in the very dangerous castle, which is practically crawling with shinobi.

However, the prisoner has now decided to add an additional objective to our mission. He now wants to go pay a visit to Lord Ode himself. We have to do it...

CHAPTER 8 - PUPPEMASTER GENNAI & THE MIMIC (TWILIGHT OF EDO JAPAN)

Ok, so our main goals for this video should be pretty clear from the title. We're going to tackle the second boss fight (the first was technically 'Amakusa Shiro'), which is the Puppetmaster Gennai. Then, we're going to recruit the optional and unfortunately very temporary companion, the mimic.

Before we proceed, in order to recruit the mimic and it not be a complete waste of time, you'll need to have four 'koban'. We'll find the fourth one right at the beginning of this video. So if you don't have three at this point, you've missed one.

Here's where you can find all four:
1. Residential Palace, Attic
2. Room where you fight the 'Go-Nin-Ja'
3. Spirit Storehouse
4. Castle Keep, Floor 2

So we left off right as we ascended the stairs to the second floor of the Castle Keep. If you proceed to the door on the opposite side of the stairs, you'll enter a room with a maiden. Leave her be and just grab all the stuff in the room. In one of the pots will be the fourth koban. If you spared Goenn, he took care of the trap here, which is what I did. I'm not sure what it's like otherwise.

Anyway, you'll need to proceed to the fourth floor to reach the puppetmaster. You'll know you're in the right room when someone starts talking to you as you examine a door. A voice is telling you to sit down and enjoy some tea. Don't listen to them. If you sit down, you'll trigger a trap and be sent plummeting god knows where. Just keep examining the door and eventually Gennai will come out.

BOSS FIGHT - PUPPETMASTER GENNAI

For a puppetmaster, he sure has an electric theme to all his attacks. Gennai comes accompanied by a small formation of minions. Use Phantom Butterflies to take them out quickly. Then use your long-range attacks on Gennai. He shouldn't be too tough. When he dies, you'll get the 'Mainspring Key', which you'll need in a second.

In the room behind this one, there's a slot on the wall. Insert a koban. After this, it will just prompt you if you want to inset another. After you insert three, the slot will disappear and the room you came from will have changed. There will be a small wooden puppet in the center. Walk over to its left side (right side of the screen) and use the Mainspring Key.

It will come to life and a battle will commence. Use the same long-range attacks and it should die fairly quickly. Now the mimic will join your party! Hurray! One more thing though...

You'll have no choice but to return to the room with the coin slot. It will now be showing again. Insert the last koban and everything will reset. The room below will go back to normal. This is why it's very important to have all four koban when you do this.

If you only have three, you can get the mimic, but you can't leave safely. The only way to leave is to trigger the trap in the center of the room, which sends you plummeting to the dungeon. The wooden mimic will break in the fall, making the whole thing a waste of time. Don't let this happen, make sure you have all four koban!

Anyway, we've achieved what we set out to do. So I'm going to save and take a break. We're about three-quarters done anyway. The only things left to do is backtrack to fight the two optional bosses and then tackle the endgame of this scenario. All in due time.
