Live A Live - Ch. 5 - The Mechanical Heart (Distant Future)
Last time, we time-travelled all the way from Imperial China to start our adventure in the distant future. Aboard the 'Cogito Ergo Sum', we met our second protagonist, Cube. Cube is a robot and something suspicious is definitely happening on the ship. One of the crew is already dead. What's gonna happen??
CHAPTER 5 - THE MECHANICAL HEART (DISTANT FUTURE)
Ok, so this video will close out the 'Distant Future' scenario of the game. This scenario definitely has an intriguing plot, however it's almost complete lack of combat essentially makes it a visual novel.
Anyway, we last left off in the rec room. Kirk is dead and mysterious xeno-organism called 'Behemoth' has escaped it's cage in the cargo hold and is now roaming the ship. Fearing that something might happen to Kirk's body, Rachel runs out of the rec room with Huey chasing after her. Corporal Darthe forces Kato to stay put.
As we begin here, Kato will decide to go after them anyway. We head down the corridor to find Huey and Rachel gravely injured. It's decided to place the bodies in the cryo pods for safe keeping. Kato instructs you to head to the Interface Room to get an override code to enter the captain's private quarters.
At this point you'll have to start being careful about moving around the ship. You may run into the behemoth and if he catches you, it's instant game over. This happens to me once in this scenario. Luckily the autosave feature lets you pick up right where you left off. We'll get a code from the Interface Room and then head to the room with the cryo pods.
Now you'll head to the captain's room with Kato and Darthe. Inside, you'll find the captain is dead and has been for some time. Kato and Darthe begin to accuse each other of being behind the murders. At some point, you'll head to Darthe's room and discover he has orders to observe the behemoth instead of protecting the crew, if it escapes. At some point, the power goes out.
Eventually, Kato will head back to his quarters. As you head there, you'll notice another Cube robot, mysteriously moving through the halls. When you enter Kato's room, you'll discover this other robot has attacked Kato. Darthe will come in and cannot distinguish between the two.
Kato gives you a chance to prove you're the good Cube. He'll ask you the first name he gave you at the beginning, which was 'Roundy'. Darthe will destroy the evil Cube. Kato is still alive, but wounded. It's revealed that the true murderer is the ship's AI, 'Decimus'.
Darthe and Cube head to the AI's control, but find the chamber is locked. Darthe heads to the Interface Room and tells Cube to ask Kato how to proceed. He'll give you a Communicator and will call you periodically. Head back to Kato's room and he'll tell you that Cube should be able to get through the AI's defenses if he uses the right terminal.
Kato realizes which terminal Cube should use, but loses consciousness before he's able to tell Cube. This is the one part of this whole scenario where it won't instruct you on the radar where to go.
You need to go to the Rec Room and use the retro arcade game Kirk was playing, called 'Captain Square'.
Boss Battle - 'Decimus' aka 'OD-10'
This guy looks super creepy, plus he has some six mini-creeps next to him. Looks like a tough battle, but you can actually beat this guy in just 2-3 turns. Simply move Cube into the lower-right corner and use 'Maser Cannon'. You can beat him in just two turns if you're lucky enough to deal maximum damage both times. However, it shouldn't take more than three turns using this strategy.
Afterwards, it appears the AI reboots and everything goes back to normal. Kato seem to recover and Darthe opens up a bit about his past. In the closing scene, he asks Cube to make him a cup of coffee. The ship eventually reaches Earth.
