So last time, we began a new era and dove into the 'Twilight of Edo Japan' scenario. In this scenario, you play as 'Oboromaru', a promising young shinobi. You are tasked with infiltrating Ode Castle and freeing a prisoner, who is said to have unique talents. Our first video in this scenario was focused on getting the 'storehouse key' and the 'dungeon key'. Now that we have the two, we can proceed further into Ode Castle. Let's dive on in...

CHAPTER 7 - FREEING THE PRISONER (TWILIGHT OF EDO JAPAN)

We left off by leaving the storehouse after getting the dungeon key inside. Now, we're going to head back into the Residential Palace and go back up to the attic. We'll be leaving here through the back entrance so that we can run across the roof. At the end of this path is the room where we found the storehouse key earlier.

We had passed a little wooden bridge earlier that hangs over a garden. It should give you the option to drop down. Go up to the stone lantern below and move it to reveal a passage. Run through this passage, as there's nothing for us to here just yet. You'll emerge next to the moat, which you can enter. You'll notice two enemies here by their floating bamboo shoots that act as snorkels, I guess. You'll notice stairs leading up that lead to another moat area.

Notice there's a black blob-like shadow moving in this part of the water. This is a secret boss, which we are far too weak at this point to face it. So if you accidentally bump into it (like I did), just flee. It's a giant koi fish, if you're curious. Instead, walk to the back of this second moat area to find a door. Inside, we'll go through a passage that leads to the dungeon.

There are two prisoners here. The one on the right is Goenn. He's one of the few people I opted to spare, because he'll later repay you by disabling some traps. The prisoner on the left is the person you're on a mission to rescue. If you try to enter his cell, a false floor will give way, leaving you to fall below.

This next part is the only part you need to pay attention in this video. In this new chamber you've fallen into, you'll notice several spirits. What you need to do here is quickly defeat all the spirits and run up the stairs toward the back of the room. These spirit monsters will regenerate a few moments after you've defeated them.

When you ascend the stairs, you'll fight a mini-boss. If there are any spirit monsters present when the mini-boss dies, they'll regenerate him. So the only way to proceed is to defeat all the spirit monsters and QUICKLY run up the stairs and start the fight before they regenerate. The mini-boss itself can be a bit challenging, but you should have learned 'Phantom Butterflies' by now.

After that, the prisoner will drop down to the chamber to meet you. He will join you party and fight with you, which is nice. The stairs here lead back to the dungeon. The prisoner will now tell you he wants to pay the host a visit and thank him for the hospitality. So now, our new objective is to get to the sixth floor of the castle keep.

There's not much here that doesn't amount to more than just going room-to-room and clearing things out. I proceed to the second floor of the castle, but it's now time to take a break. We should be about half-way through here now.
