Last time, we finished up the 'Near Future' era scenario, which was basically the plot of the movie 'Akira'. The protagonist for this era's name is even Akira. It was a wild, wacky chapter with psychic powers, liquified human souls, massive mechs and dead turtles. We've now completed four or the main seven eras, so it should be smooth sailing from here on out. Now, lets us forget the Near Future and go back to a time before kings and kingdoms...

CHAPTER 14 - POGO (PREHISTORY)

So this is the 'Prehistory' chapter, which is the earliest era scenario in the game. It's described as one of the longer eras, but I finished about a third of it in just about a half hour. I find this era humorous, because there is no real spoken or written language, so everyone's dialogue is represented by images.

Prehistory will begin with cutscenes depicting a cult of bandits, a kidnapped woman and a green-haired boy running from a group of particularly angry mammoths. Once it’s all over, we’ll get to name the aforementioned mammoth-hating green-haired boy. The default name for this character is 'Pogo'.

When we finally gain control of Pogo, we'll explore his immediate surroundings a bit. Wake up Pogo's best friend, Gori and head out. Our main goal right now is to go see the chief, but let's explore a bit first.

To the right of Pogo's room is a little mini-game. A group of about 19 cavemen will rush into one of the two haystacks here. The caveman leading the game will have two bubbles appear over him: one will have three people, the other five. If he points to the one with three, it means you need to pick the haystack with fewer cavemen in order to win. If he points to the one with five, it means you have to pick the haystack that has more cavemen.

Alternatively, you may see a bubble with a gorilla in it. You'll need to pick the haystack that contains a gorilla. This one is very easy, as you can clearly see the gorilla. The prize is the same regardless of which bubble the caveman points to. Your reward is a set of materials that we can use to craft weapons, armor and accessories.

You can explore the room further to the right, but eventually you'll head left to find a sort of central hub for the village. In this area, the room on the bottom-left is a shop where you can craft things using those materials you won. On the right-hand side, towards the top is a sort of storage room. The only other two rooms are the Chief's quarters and the exit to the outside world.

If you try to exit, the caveman blocking the path will "tell" you to go see the Chief. The Chief will take you outside to hunt. Similar to Akira's ability to read minds, you'll now be able to use your sense of smell to track scents. You'll need this in order to hunt. Pressing X will produce scent clouds. Walk up to one, then move around. It should trigger a battle. Each battle will get you a 'haunch of meat'. When you get three, Pogo will signal it's time to go.

Pogo has successfully completed a rite of passage. He is old enough to hunt, so the elder chief sent him out to start earning his keep. Now Pogo and Gori will head back to their room to rest. Gori will wake up in the middle of the night and take off. Pogo will awake later to see he's gone and will take off after him.

Gori is in the storage room we saw earlier. After you collect him, you'll start to notice something's off in the room. Someone appears to be hiding in the series of haystacks here. Use the radar here to know exactly where you need to go. If it's telling you to leave the room, but it won't let you, pay close attention.

Gori is sniffing around the room, so use X to track the scent. Eventually you'll meet 'Beru', the cavewoman we saw escaping in the opening scene of the scenario. In a series of humorous interactions, Pogo will setup a bed for Beru next to him. But by morning, Gori is there instead lol.

Beru is back to hiding in her haystack. She won't come out unless you give her another haunch of meat. You may have to go outside and hunt for it. I know I did. After you feed her, she will kiss Pogo. We're now going to return to the main hub of the cave. However, before we do that, it's time for a break.

We should be about one-third of the way through the 'Prehistory' scenario now.
