Samus's Log: "This entire mission has been a brutal revisiting of old enemies. But I am the champion of the Chozo, a galactic savior...I've beaten you before, Queen and I will beat you again. But I'll wait until the absolute last moment to do so with my Power Bomb. Gotta keep it dramatic."

A good part of this video is me taking the scenic route to our next objective. This was never going to be a 100% run, but at this point, we have ALL of the tools we need to get everything...well, almost.

Looks like...something took care of Ridley before we got here though! Admittedly, this DOES help to explain why Ridley's corpse was like that in Metroid Fusion, so yeah...you done good game! For once!

Continuing our search we find....some painful corridors. Those light rights hurt! Metroid fans know them well from fights with Mother Brain...I can't remember their names for the life of me though. But at ninety damage a pop, these things are no joke. And then we stumble upon a survivor! But she'll have to wait. We have other...pressing matters.

The ultimate stage in a Metroid's life cycle (except perhaps for an Omega?), the Queen Metroid appears before us! This is, for the most part, the final boss of the game and it's suitably stressful with all those Metroids running around. The fight is in three main stages.

First, we have to take out ALL the Metroids she'll spawn. This is where the Seeker Missiles come in handy....in theory. You'd need multiple missiles to take them out, but one Super Missile will do the job. Pity we can't fire MULTIPLE Super Missiles at once, huh? Once we successfully take them all out (which isn't easy if they're too far away from each other), the Queen...uh...breaks out her crystal mane?

During this phase, she'll employ a NASTY fire attack. Two whole energy tanks! Kind of hard to Sensemove out of the way of it too, so it's best to just hang back out of it's range. We'll have to break those crystals with Seeker Missiles. All the while...MAN is the fire annoying! Especially when it uses it RIGHT after you've attacked. Bit of a sucker punch, isn't it?

The emergency brakes somehow activate as the fight winds down, and we seem to be approaching Galactic Federation orbit. We have to take this thing out NOW and so here comes one of the last few absolutely terribly handled moments in the game. After blasting its belly with the Plasma Beam for a bit, we'll....grapple its mouth...somehow and get swallowed. From here...wait, when did the cutscene end and player control begin here?!

See...I've played this game three times now, and I know EXACTLY what to do here. Samus is finally going to use her Power Bombs again to destroy the Queen...but apparently holding down the bomb button while the cutscene of you dropping into the Queen's stomach won't be counted. So for several CRUCIAL seconds I'm just standing there, despite the fact that I'm actively holding a button down...So I died in a situation that was CLEARLY not my fault. Whatever, second time's the charm, right?

Like...it's a cool moment on paper and I actually DID manage to figure this out back when I first played this and felt happy with myself but....after an entire game of going through sequences where you'd be given your power and told so, why did they choose at the LAST possible moment to just give you a power-up with no warning? I even tried doing a Power Bomb while on the way over here, just to double-check and see if the game would let me. Adam isn't here anymore, there's no Authorization to hide behind anymore...it's completely and utterly stupid.

Oh but don't worry, it's gonna get a WHOLE lot dumber soon.
