Metroid: Other M - Old Wounds (Part 17)
0Samus's Log: "Ian....I....I should have been fast enough. I...."
Apologies here...this video is me at my most lost. But that's part of the Metroid experience, isn't it?! I would have edited this all down for time but...it would make it awkward to not see my process. Other M is linear for the most part, so this is one of the few parts of the game where your hand isn't held and told RIGHT where to go. Still....kinda going out of the way just to open a single door, isn't it?
Hey, it's Anthony! Oh boy! Hey, it's the Rhedogian! Oh no! Without a minute to spare, we FINALLY get to use the Grapple Beam and give Anthony some backup. If you wait too long he WILL be killed, by the way. Funny how I was already saving Anthony before Adam could finish giving me the order. It's almost like he's slowing me down!
So yes, round 2 with this guy, with Anthony as backup! He'll do at least SOME work, dodging attacks and firing off at the boss and its little minions, and to my knowledge he can't die, so that's cool!
The creature retreats before we can finish it off, diving right into LAVA. That thing must be damn near indestructible! And now we have TWO strong creatures on the loose! Apparently Adam gave the call to get everyone gathered together...strange he never said anything to Samus! HMMMMM.
And now Anthony brings up a bitter old memory, and we finally get some context for why Samus left Adam's command. It's a fine enough reason, a little contrived maybe, but fine. Adam made a tough call and sacrificed his little brother so he could save hundreds of others. Samus is guilty, feeling she could have saved Ian if she had been given the chance.
Pity we never get to know a THING about Ian though. Going by that one photo though, he seemed to be pretty chummy with Samus. Maybe I accidentally put my shipping goggles on, but were they a thing? That's left vague, so come to your own conclusions!
This is also like one of the few times Jessica Martin is allowed to EMOTE when playing Samus, so enjoy it while you can! I think she's a good actress, but her direction was flawed, always told to deliver things in this lifeless monotone. Not that she could save the overly flowery and clunky material.
Man, Anthony, why did you have to bring that up? Now you killed the mood! Oh well. Onward!
