Samus's Log. "Adam...I...I have a job to do now. Time to go."

Here we are. Of all the scenes in the game, this might be the most controversial one, only matched by the one before the Ridley fight. For the record, I absolutely despise just about everything in this scene.

Samus makes her way to Sector Zero and stumbles upon...an infant Metroid. She hesitates, thoughts of the infant Metroid she bonded with still fresh in her mind, but just as she overcomes that and prepares to attack....

ADAM SHOOTERS HER IN THE BACK. What the hell. What the ACTUAL hell, game? Adam was an asshole before, but here he loses ANY trace of sympathy. You're gonna call her a galactic savior, but that loses a little weight when you KNOCKED HER OUT WITH A LIFE-SUCKING MONSTER HOVERING OVERHEAD. Sure, you shot the Metroid before it got to her but....Jesus Christ, this scene...

There are so many ways you could have rewritten this scene to make sense. If you wanted Adam to sacrifice himself and have one last "touching" scene with Samus, there's no reason to have him also shoot her in the back to "weaken" her and prevent her from stopping him. He could have distracted her in some other way and then locked the door behind him, but no.

If we had more scenes like this where we got to see Samus and Adam actually TALK to each other, flashbacks or otherwise, I might care about him here. But he has no redeeming qualities for the rest of the game, and shooting Samus in the back tears it. I hate this character so much, but you know what? He's finally gone. Samus, you're free! No more shilling!

After this heavy cutscene, we have to have an equally tense escape sequence! It seems even with Adam gone, Samus is still going to be utterly stupid and only activate powers at the ABSOLUTE last minute. The Gravity Suit in this game is a little different. It acts as more of a "feature" of her Varia Suit, only giving off a purple glow when actively in use. In most other games though, the armor itself is changed to purple. Allegedly, the director for this game thought it looked to goofy to see "this purple person" walking around in cutscenes, so it was changed.

We're approaching the home stretch, thank God. Rest in pieces Adam, you unlikable, incompetent, callous, unfeeling, arrogant, misogynistic piece of human garbage.
