First instance of sequence breaking, if you were to actually go the normal directed route, then a lot of time would be spent jumping from Brinstar to Norfair, simply to get the Hi-Jump Boots and Varia Suit. The long vertical shaft shortcut also permits early access to Ridley's lair. Getting the Hi-Jump Boots NOW being that Samus is already in Norfair is the best option, and allows her to get the Varia Suit on the way back to Brinstar. Heading into Kraid's Lair, she will have a defense boost and shielding from all the acid within the rooms.
Varia Suit comes with no shoulder padding, might be strange for unfamiliar Metroid players who have only played her recent games, but that is explained later as well. In addition, the simple color swap is a reference to the earlier Varia Suit that simply altered her sprite color as well. The Hi-Jump will also make Kraid's fight a little easier to manage as well.
I accidentally destroyed the floor before getting the parasite beetles to devour the bio-barrier at 7:41.
