29Real Rally Roots 2000! This is simply a great racing game for PS1, perhaps the best. 1st time playing through Championship mode, after trying rally mode. This was tough! I was delighted to find it works perfectly with the Thrustmaster T300RS wheel on MiSTer- configuration information below if you want to try yourself. I had only played Colin McRae Rally 2.0 on PC back when it released in the early 2000's, but it turns out that the Europe 1.0 version I'm playing here was released first amongst all of its ports, including PC. Still holds up in 2023! I'm playing the Europe/PAL version here because the NTSC ports have the incorrect speed, running about 12% slower than this one. This is very odd for a PAL release, as usually it's the other way around. Either way, it still plays wonderfully assuming you have a display that works with PAL, and you could even use the PAL 60hz hack in the PS1 core to play on an NTSC CRT if you wanted, but it will be slightly faster than it should be, so perhaps the best option would be to try the NTSC version of the game with the recently-released PS1 2x CPU overclock core that FPGAzumSpass released right before Christmas on the MiSTer discord.
Video is quite a bit softer than the original recording, due to the additional camera being rendered in the limited 1080p bitrate for YouTube. It looks great directly on a digital display, and you can add a shadow mask for further enhancement.
Thrustmaster T300RS configuration information for this game:
Set wheel to 360 degree range mode by pressing d-pad left + mode on the wheel until the light blinks twice. (update firmware if hardware mode switch combinations like this aren't working)
