MiSTer FPGA - Out Run [XE-1AP Mode w/ Wheel & Pedals] (アウトラン) / PC Engine (TurboGrafx-16)
Here's a pretty wild new enhancement for MiSTer: XE-1AP support in the PC Engine core- used here with a Thrustmaster T300RS Wheel & Pedals for full analog control! This feels incredibly authentic when set up properly. Thanks to dshadoff for adding support for this! Any argument about what the best 16-bit port of Out Run is, can firmly be put to rest.
Update: This was recorded with default 1080 degree wheel radius- use 270 instead!

T300RS Wheel + T3PA Pedals Settings:
Tap D-pad Left + Mode on wheel until light blinks only once (270 degree mode)
*You can skip all of the below binding steps by using the input maps I've prepared already:*
https://mega.nz/file/DJcx3CwZ#UJqbzJ1...
--MiSTer Main binding:
"Stick 1 Test: Tilt RIGHT" - Turn Wheel Right
"Stick 1 Test: Tilt DOWN" - Light/Quick Press Clutch Pedal
"Stick 2 Test: Tilt RIGHT" - Light/Quick Press Brake Pedal
"Stick 2 Test: Tilt DOWN" - Light/Quick Press Gas Pedal (see note below)
Bind rest as normal, skip mouse functions, and then at end:
"Stick 1: Tilt RIGHT" - Turn Wheel Right
"Stick 1: Tilt DOWN" - Light/Quick Press Clutch Pedal
NOTE: If having problems binding normal buttons like dpad, etc after binding analog axis, exit the mapping and retry, but be sure to hit the Gas Pedal very lightly/quick for the "Stick 2 Test: Tilt DOWN" portion. Alternatively you can try and hold the Gas Pedal down half-way the entire time during mapping and then press it fully and release back to half-way for "Stick 2 Test: Tilt DOWN", but this is much more difficult.
--PC Engine Core binding:
Hold the brake pedal in half-way and then bind the controls to the wheel's dpad as normal, until you get to "Button I" and then press the brake in fully, and return to the half-way position again. Do not go past half-way on the brake when releasing. Continue to keep the brake held in half-way, and finish binding the buttons (you can skip III, IV, V and VI since you won't be using those at all), and optionally you can set a second set of bound buttons and skip everything besides "Button I" to bind it in the normal button position if you desire, to have it both bound to the brake pedal and the face buttons on the wheel.
It's necessary to do these specific steps because the brake has multiple axis that can be bound to different functions, and if you just press it normally when mapping you'll most likely have the brake always on when the pedal is released.
Make sure to set the input device as "XE-1AP" in the core before loading the game.
--Controls overview:
This will give you full analog steering & gas control, with the gas & brake pedals bound to the correct locations.
Shifting is done with the clutch pedal. When it's released you're in high gear, so you'll need to press the clutch in to use low gear when starting out or recovering from a crash. Doesn't take long to get used to.
If you see the cursor selection moving by itself in menus, either in the MiSTer OSD or in the game itself, it's because left analog up/down is bound to the clutch pedal, and not having it pressed is moving it in a direction. Press the clutch in half-way to stop the cursor. You'll need to press/release it to access the options menu in Out Run when it's in XE-1AP Analog mode because it no longer accepts digital d-pad inputs in this mode.
MiSTer's PC Engine core was transformed into the most accurate way to play this console besides original hardware, largely in part thanks to efforts by srg320. He also created our SNES, Sega CD and Sega 32x cores, and is currently working on a Sega Saturn core for MiSTer.
