33My first 1cc for Forgotten Worlds! I actually had never played past a couple stages in this game until yesterday because it was difficult to control without a spinner. The Namco JogCon via. MiSTerAddons' upcoming Reflex adapter turned out to be a perfect fit. I recommend a wrist brace because of the JogCon's ergonomics when used as a spinner, if playing for any prolonged sessions. I barely squeaked by with the 1cc in this run, as you can see by the "magic pixel" of health I had remaining at the end. I only survived because I was actually able to dodge the boss' laser attack 3 or 4 times this run. I hadn't dodged it a single time before that- it's really difficult! Max speed is needed & I think you need to start heading the opposite direction when he telegraphs the move coming with his animation and then switch direction at the exact right time, for consistent dodging. It's going to take a lot of practice to get good at that!
Now that I have a way to play this game comfortably, I'll definitely be returning to improve upon my score in the future! I took an early death on stage 5 because I got greedy & need to work on getting through that section with the laser walls while taking less damage. It's a really tough section with the hope of farming multiple 10,000 yenny coins distracting you as enemies close-in from both sides of the screen. I'd like to do future runs without relying on safe spots and quick kills for some of the bosses also, if only to make for more entertaining videos that showcase more of the bosses graphics & animation.
The Reflex adapter I used for JogCon compatibility is a work-in-progress USB board by MiSTer Addons that converts classic controllers for use on modern systems/MiSTer. It uses the same HDMI-style controller connectors as the SNAC/SNAX boards that MiSTer Addons provides. JogCon code in the board was originally made by Sorgelig a few years back (the same person who created MiSTer) and improved upon with the "fake spinner" mode by sonik. The Reflex adapter is based on sonik's RetroZord arduino code and provides low latency 1000hz-compatible conversion for most classic controller types. This should be releasing within the coming months in 2023, and is a great way to breathe new life into a limited-use controller like the JogCon!
