MiSTer FPGA - Finalizer - Super Transformation (ファイナライザー) / Konami Arcade
I had never heard of or seen Finalizer in an arcade until repeat mentions/videos from LGR and am glad to have finally given it a try! It's a rather unique shooter with mecha transformations and L/R arm weapon pickups for a variable loadout. You also get a handy shield that is controlled by the right-hand weapon button when no other weapon is picked up in mecha form.
There are some unique powerups letting you freeze time or jet around the screen to rack up a bunch of points from enemies if you can shoot the weapons power-ups a certain number of times. Bosses seem rather similar when you encounter them, with a very narrow hitbox in their center and spread fire weapons that require constant movement. If you don't damage them quick enough they will run away like cowards. lol
Overall this is a fun game to learn with a heavy emphasis on scoring, though a bit repetitive with the enemy waves once you play it a while. Some of the enemies home in on you rather quickly so you'll need to identify those waves to take out those ones first. Try and get the crash powerup when asteroid fields appear to increase your score quickly! This is the only way to destroy asteroids and it's pretty fun to try and smash all of them up instead of having to avoid them like normal.
This recording was my first time breaking 500k points, so I think I'll go for a million on the next attempt. Pretty fun game.
Thanks to Ace for a majority of work on this core, Electron Ash and Arnim Laeuger for assistance with the Konami custom chips, and JimmyStones for adding high score saving & pause support as well. Please consider donating to the devs with the following links:
