Guess who's back! MultiVersus returns again to this channel as the last closed beta test concluded and a new one begins. This week was early access for those that participated in the last beta, but next week the floodgates will be open! While a lot can still change and be added to the game, it will effectively be launching next week for realsies and we're starting to see the form the game will take. Here's some match footage from this week so far.

Match 1: Sky Arena

Here's a new stage, from Steven Universe. A pretty looking stage with a nice orchestrated version of the show's theme song, We Are the Crystal Gems. By default in the open beta four characters are available for free on a rotation system which apparently will change weekly. Taz, Jake, Shaggy and Harley are available for free this week, with Wonder Woman once again unlocked by doing the tutorial. I've purchesed Bugs as you can see here and one of my opponents got Finn. He's definitely one of my favorite characters as of now, and the stage itself is wide enough for me to get into some item shenanigans. Shame my Taz partner...just kinda did nothing but spin? That's sadly pretty common behavior...but at least he isn't invisible anymore!

Match 2 + 3: Sky Arena (Three Platforms), Sky Arena

We have an enemy Bugs on the other side...and a Batman that never stops mashing the three-hit combo. Can we talk about what happened at like 06:28? Why was Bugs able to do TWO rockets like that? Is that a rollback issue? Some new perk? A glitch? HAX?! Kinda weird. On that note, I find the items you get from Bug's ACME box or his vault are kinda underpowered for what they are. The TV that can spawn banana guards or NEPTR from Adventure Time always feels underwhelming. Nevertheless I carried here!

Match 4: Trophy's E.D.G.E. 2

Here's our first look at Iron Giant, the newest character added to the game. The first "colossal" sized character in the game (and if leaks are accurate, only the first of many), Iron Giant is definitely eye-catching. Being big means his attacks can have huge range but it ALSO makes him a huge target. He's a Tank, so he specializes in being hard to take down, rather than mowing down opponents relentlessly. He is not a gun after all. You know, at least until he activates Rage Mode. He can throw scrap down to act as a hazard or eat it to generate bolts, which absorb attacks. Once he's in rage mode his partner can also pilot him too but I haven't really seen anyone do that effectively yet.

You might be wondering where the other match in this set went....well in the next match my ally just kind of like...gave up? They were AFK for a bit and died three times then killed themselves to end it and left the fight entirely after so I figured it wasn't worth putting up.

Match 5: Sky Arena

I did NOT intend for there to be so many matches on this stage but this is what the game gave me to work with. This time I try out Wonder Woman and...man I dunno, despite her being listed as recommended she feels weird. I can't use her parry down attack correctly to save my life and as a Tank I get she's more defense oriented but MAN some of her attacks suck, like her down air. Really hard to land and spike people. But I make do!

Match 6: Trophy's E.D.G.E. 2

We're fighting for our LIFE in here, but I think I was a better teammate here. Using Wonder Woman's armor to help Garnet out and even lassoing her back to safety at points. I even got a spike! I do wish that you could like...use her shield to REFLECT projectiles instead of just block them though. Would be more rewarding!

Match 7: Scooby's Haunted Mansion

Finally a different stage! Too bad I kinda hate this one. Really hard to get kills at points, but then at other points you just get ping-ponged up the opening at the top for a kill that really doesn't seem fair sometimes. We fought hard and this one came down to the wire for sure!

I do plan on playing this more, but to be honest I've been having a bit of a bad time with the open beta. Online connections are kinda spotty in general and the grind to unlock characters is a chore. I'm not one to play a lot of free-to-play stuff in the first place and don't like the model's attempts to manipulate people into parting with more money then they should. For now I'm going to take it slow and steady to unlock the characters I want, or else use whatever is on free rotation so unfortunately I won't probably be able to showcase as much character variety as I want. With the beta REALLY opening up next week, with the newly announced....Lebron James...coming to the roster though, it should make for some fun matches. Until then!
