I feel like this is where Superstar Road starts to really get serious in its difficulty. Of course, Run for It and Swim for Your Life! are both quite infamous too, but every stage from here on out was quite the gauntlet for me (with one exception, which I'll point out when we get there). Fire Bar Cliffs, the Rock-Candy Mines representative, was the second-hardest one for me. It also has nothing to do with spicy Clif bars.

This stage features Fire Bars. You've seen them in every 2-D platforming Super Mario game since Super Mario Bros., and it can be used as a bludgeoning weapon in Super Smash Bros. 3DS and Wii U. Only here, they're colossal! The stage is designed entirely around close calls, barely giving Mario room to move, even Mini Mario. There are very few safe areas, and all of them are tiny. Some of these Fire Bars move so fast, also, that they effectively block access to certain areas in particular directions, especially the room with the third Star Coin.

I never figured out how to get past the last Fire Bar before the Warp Pipe ending the first section without getting hit as normal Mario. With Mini Mario, I just let him fly over it.

The second section of this stage is even more insane. The first part was rather open-air, with break points between each set of Fire Bars. The second section, on the other hand, is a vertical climb of nonstop Fire Bars littering the screen everywhere. This feels like a ROM hack kind of stage, and if Fire Bars were available in Super Mario Maker, I'd expect to see stuff like this. That being said, the uneven Fire Bars towards the end here leads me to believe that the difficulty was actually toned down, and that it was considered too difficult, even for Superstar Road. I don't expect to see such mercy in Super Mario Maker.

As for whether I'll actually get Super Mario Maker? I'm not sure. But it's about four weeks away from release as of the time I upload this video.

To unlock Fire Bar Cliffs, get every Star Coin in Rock-Candy Mines.
